Maybe I've given the impression that my husband is some kind of bumbling idiot but he really is not. The decor panels are between all the base units.
no i wasn't saying that at all but it is just really unusal to have decor panels in between base or wall units, which is prob why ikea were having trouble understanding what you were doing as the cabs normally fix together with no panel inbetween which is why your kitchen came with the size screws & connecting bolts that it did.
plus before he fits the extract please look at the fitting instructions for the gas hob this will give you the min height the extract needs to be above it.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

Well we saw one at Ikea Lakeside with base panels and thought it looked fine so they should understand as its what they have put in their display.
I'm kind of hoping he'll get the hob/extractor right as he's a gas safe plumber who fits them in new builds. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -

This confused me so much! We have just bought an ikea kitchen and fitted ourselves from start to finish. We LOVED every second of it! the instructions were clear as day, every single little screw bolt and dot you needed was in there and it was easy as pie!!
I would NEVER recommend paying someone to fit your Ikea kitchen, regular fitters hate them, and ikea charge more than the cost. We really did enjoy putting ours together and found it super easy. The cabs bolted together with the bolt & screw combo that slide into each other, and the cover panels screw on with the screws supplied in the cover panel box. If you are putting cover panels BETWEEN your cabs, then you've made a BIG mistake and wasted a lot of money! Otherwise, it should be a doddle.
Our house is a victorian semi which has suffered subsidance (?) and although the walls were wonky, we managed to get it in just fine. Send me pics if you want any advice. Good luck!0 -
One other thing...In your case I would've just trimmed down the cover panels...you would've saved tons of time, hundres of pounds, and a fair amount of space. The bottom edge would be covered by the worksurface...OR you could put them on after the worksurface if you didn't want to have to cut the WS around it. With all the cover panles you will have an odd gap between each door, but I guess you've thought of that!
Good luck, I hope it goes well!!0 -
What about a tall unit next to a wall and bae unit. This is an Ikea kitchen. This is the way the Ikea design works the decor panel goes top to bottom of the unit excluding legs.No there won't because the decor panel is deeper than the units and fills the gap between the doors. In the case of the oven housing solution you make it so.
Can't see the point either of paying for an expensive decor panel, only to conceal 99% of it between two units, so you only see the thin front edge which shouldn't be there anyway.
All this and more is just confirms the reasons why I and most other kitchen installers will NEVER install anything from Ikea.0 -
So when used at the end of a run, which is the place decor panels are intended to be used, what are you supposed to do with the gap between the bottom of the unit and the floor?
You run the plinth [which runs all the way along the bottom of the cabs] round the side, or did I misunderstand? No doubt is can be done that way, but kitchens are generally designed so that the doors of adjacent units do NOT have a chunk of panel between them - look in any proper kitchen showroom or online, and you will see the doors of a run of units don't have anything between them.

I can understand WHY the kitchen planner suggested this, but it is silly, for one, it's a huge waste of money, and two, it will leave a gap between the two cabinets, ideally you wouldn't do this. All this and more is just confirms the reasons why I and most other kitchen installers will NEVER install anything from Ikea.
We fitted our own Ikea Kitchen after discovering most fitters hate them, but honestly, having never done it before, it was a total doddle and looks great, much better than my brothers kitchen which was fully designed planned and fitted by one company. The control you get is great, and the finished product is brilliant. There seems to have been bad advice from the kitchen planner on this one which is a real shame. As I mentioned, I would've used end panels trimmed down, therefore using less and not having to put them between each cabinet.0
