lve now got this message from ebay but not sure what it means

    Case open: Work it out

Please wait for the item to arrive.
    You can also:
Add a message to the seller, or close this case if you are satisfied.
The case will automatically be closed on 22 Oct, 2012.
The seller has responded to your case with delivery information. 09 Sep, 2012 at 11:27
    Postal service:
    Royal Mail
    Delivery date:
    28 Aug, 2012
    Seller's note:
"i have postal prove and postmaster prove as well and i fill i sent the item out in the right way so for me i will give the buyer all the info to deal with this and dont see why i should refund all and lose my post fees and the game i sent out ??"

do you think he means for me to claim from royal mail using the proof of posting, and if l close the case now would that mean l wouldnt recieve a refund at all, its all a bit confusing now

Yes, I think he does, but he's talking out of his hat - his message indicates he won't refund voluntarily so eBay will make him do it.

DO NOT close the case at all.

  • Well playing devil's advocate for a moment it sounds to me like like the seller is a teenager or some such and he seems unaware he can claim from the P.O, he just seems to be whining that he doesn't see why he should lose his money and the game, etc.

Tell him HE can put in a claim for up to £46 from the P.O. if you like, but don't close the case until YOU receive a refund in full - from PayPal.

If he can't provide proof of delivery, you will win the case and receive a full refund from PayPal.

thanks being a seller l'm not used to being on this side of an inr whenever its happend to me l just ask them to wait a couple of days and then refund its just not worth the hastle, to me its just a hazard of selling on ebay may aswell accept it and get on with it not drag it out like he's doing, by the way this is his latest rant

that game was my little boys game who spent his pocket money on this game paying over 30 pounds and now sold it to you and we done everything right with post prove and postmaster prove so its now down to royal man . i can give you all the info i have and you can take it up with them last time your here from me in less you want post info!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

eBay will usually refund rather than not. They wouldn't want to be known to be a place where they were essentially running a lottery.

[redacted something that might be fodder for scammers, sorry]

You might have to wait for the money but you will get it back.

And - I hope I am not being too disrespectful in saying this - but I wish my grandad had been into computer games. My grandmother had an Amstrad CPC, onto which she copied some games (input the hard way from listing magazines) and put them onto disc for our use, which was still going when she disposed of it at the turn of the millennium. She didn't cope so well with more modern machines, but she was a trailblazer in all of this, having also been one of the first women in Northern Ireland to qualify as a lawyer.

The nearest my nephew will come with his grandad is The Times' Sudoku from an iPad, I suspect - though he already recognises us over Skype.

Basically it seems he's expecting to keep the money and you chase RM for it, however as the person with the contract with RM it's his job to chase RM for the postage fees and item value (ie what it sold for on Ebay).

I'd let him know to not send you proof to you and to claim through royal mail for his loss himself - if he does this properly he won't lose anything.

Do NOT close the case as if you do he could keep money and claim back his costs from RM and you have no way to get a refund.

If you sell from this account I would also exclude this person from buying from you. You don't want any retaliatory nonsense from a person with such an attitude.
