MSE News: Easyjet launches allocated seating

How? Passengers currently board fast in order to get a better seat. If everyone is allocated a seat by the time they check in, what incentive remains for passengers to board fast?SaveTheEuro wrote: »They're going to keep speedy boarding0 -
I don't think it will end the scrum mentality of most passengers.
I travel with a variety of airlines, many of which have allocated seating as standard, and there is always a scrum.
It makes me laugh as I sit back and let the scrum clear before boarding - the plane doesn't leave until everyone is on board and safely seated
While I mostly agree, these days with the charges for hold baggage and 80% of people taking 'just about fits into hand luggage restrictions' bags the scrum is also about finding overhead locker space.0 -

One incentive is ease at finding storage space for your bag. Another is knowing that you will be treated a little bit better than the majority. Presumably, those are the reasons why easyJet are keeping the perk for passengers who pay for the more expensive seats.0 -
No doubt soon they'll add seats with more leg room, a proper meal service, proper priority boarding, VIP lounge etc etc and end up with business class!0

I was expecting it to go the other way.
Have you noticed how an aircraft cabin is shaped like the Tube trains?
So what if they pack you into a standard container, with sitting room for 20, and the rest have to stand. Imagine all the passengers are pre-loaded in one container, and all the luggage and other payloads are in a second container.
The plane taxis into position, the belly opens in the back.
Two containers roll out, probably onto trucks, and two containers are loaded. Connect the air hoses so you don't suffocate,
They can do a backpacker special, so you take a number ticket and wait around the airport for standby tickets. The PA would announce, "We have three standing tickets for Marbella, please report to desk 87."
No toilets, but they should supply sealable peepee bags.0 -

It was called Thunderbird 2 http://davidszondy.com/future/Thunderbirds/Thnuderbirdpod.jpg
Good idea apart from the loo bit.
Has he gone? someone call for medication before he has another idea! or someone listens to it!!0 -

Avoiding the crowd and more overhead locker space are the two things that come to mind. If people didn't value being boarded first it wouldn't be a perk for status holders.0 -

The containers could have their own parachutes.
in the event of malfunction, you jettison the containers.
Admittedly, I think this was also done in Thunderbirds.0 -

You'd have to pay extra for the parachute option though, and even more for speedy parachutes.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
