MSE News: Easyjet launches allocated seating

You can still check in online without any extra fee providing you let easyJet choose your seat.0

The only 'sitting together' thing they'll probably comply with is the CAA recommendation of child with an adult.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

You still need to get on first to stash your carry-on luggage,
which is not allocated.0 -
Exactly. I'm surprised it's taken the budget airlines to cotton on charging for seat selection. British Airways have been doing this for a while with some charges considerably higher than Easyjet. See http://www.britishairways.com/travel/choose-your-seat/public/en_gb and note that prices are "from".
Just come back from Orlando with BA from Gatwick. Didn't realise that unless you payed the extra £28 for one way seat allocation that it would be virtually impossible to find a seat together even though I downloaded the boarding passes 24 hrs before departure. On the return flight I paid the extra to reserve the seats, not cheap when there's 7 of you.0 -

You really thought you'd find 7 seats empty next to each other?0 -
I can't see how this won't hit punctuality, everyone will be much more laid back about boarding and even getting to the gate (and this is a topic I know something about).
Personally I advocate Micheals(tm) BackToFront boarding - no allocated seats, all boarding is from teh rear door and disembarkation is from the front door.I think....0 -

No obviously not but we were all spread out all over the economy section with most of us seated separately. When you're paying almost £6000 I would have expected to at least be reasonably close together.0 -
I don't like it - I like being able to get on, see where others are sat, and then choose accordingly. My experience of allocated seating in economy is that everyone is allocated together, rather than spreading out all over the plane, and giving people a bit of comfort. That leads to the crew having to decide whether people can spread out when they are in the air - which can lead to arguments!0

I much prefer the 'Le Mans' style of Ryanair then I don't have to sit near my family.0
