Hi!
I have finally reached the end of this thread! Thank you to all those wonderful ideas! I've noted them down in my notebook already. :j
My OH half proposed recently and we're looking to get married in October 2010. I've only visited one venue so far - which was beautiful. I really like the idea of going to the Oxfam wedding shops for my dress. I looked at the website and it doesnt mention leatherhead?
Is there a chance you have an address / contact number for them?

Thank you in advance

Hello, this is my first post so please be nice
I'm getting married in July 2010 and have spent far too long reading all your posts and getting lots of ideas. I couldn't believe how much you can pay for things, we really don't agree on spending so much on one day, we'd rather put the money towards a house. We're getting married in Southampton as this is where we met and got engaged. We're on a tight budget as we've both recently finished university and I'm struggling to find work. Our aim is about £3000 including honeymoon, which my fiance still thinks is steep, but it's really hard, even though we're having our reception in our tiny church hall. I already have my dress, it was "end of season" from a bridal wear shop local to my mum so was half price at £400, I've seen it elsewhere for £1500, so a bargain, but still a signigicant chunk of the budget! We're making the invites and my fiance's good with computers so is building a website. My brother is an amateur photographer and my auntie bakes cakes and does sugar craft so those things are sorted. We're having a buffet lunch and aren't bothering with an evening do as we want everyone at the ceremony and we're not really into partying!
There are a couple of things we're struggling with so if anyone has any suggestions they'd be much appreciated. We need to hire tables and chairs as the hall doesn't have enough (and the ones it has are those horrible plastic type) but can't find anywhere that'll do them at a resonable rate. I also have a general planning question. Do you need to have a table plan for a buffet?
Thanks for all your great tips so far! I still haven't finished reading through, there are a lot and I've probably already wasted far too much time on here!0 -
I'm getting married in Prague in July and everythings set.
Ive just gone onto Vistaprint.co.uk for my invitations and got some really nice ones with envelopes £6 per 100. and they are very elegant and glossy. They are for my reception when we get back. i also found myself looking at the T-shirts and Pens they offer for free (you pay for postage) for hen/reminders etc they also do 'thank you' cards and 'save the date' etc.
If anyones getting married abroad i suggest looking for a wedding organiser and looking at their reviews - im going with Bohemia events who have so far been wonderful with regards to my documentation its costing about £1000 for document translation, ceremony, transport, translater at wedding - which is a lot less than in Britain!
My H2B isnt one for jewelry and so wants to go for a tungsten one, i did my research and actually they are becoming more popular as they are manly and hardwearing, and best of all cheap!
I also took advantage by seeking out closing down shops, i had the look of buying my bridesmaids dresses at a catalogue shop (closing down) for £20 each (reduced from £75). for my bride dress i went into TK Max (excellent around prom/leavers parties) as you have different colours and more shops are putting these dresses out - it had been reduced to £30. I bought my wedding shoes from ebay £20.
ive also been making my own cakeboxes too, i went to poundland and found some beads and embellishments (lilac flowers)(for card decoration) and bought my cake boxes at matalan £5 - me and H2B spent time together putting the beads on the flower stems and glue-ing them to the boxes. they were nice as individual little gifts and looked simple yet sophisticated on our boxes. What we intend to do is take the flat boxes with us and fill them with sweeties and little toys (choc might melt) and we thought it would be good to regress some of our friends with the toys while they wait for dinner and eat their sweeties later. (obviously the problem was we couldnt take a real cake with us to Prague - so we looked at the alternatives!) thinking of filling them with lovehearts!
for dinner we are going to a nice traditional Czech taverna and people will buy whatever they like from teh menu, that way everyone gets what they like (being in prague dinners are quite cheap) and we wont have to fork out the money (bearing in mind we are also having a reception for everyone when we get back and paying for that buffet (for 50)
if we had 80 guests and only catered for 50 - do you think people would mind? ive seen in a few posts that people had enough. i want to invite all my friends and family but cant afford to pay for everyone, im having it in the evening and the beer will be cheap for the guests - im hoping booze will win them over. its at the local cricket club. Now living within my means!0 -

Hiya
In getting married next August, ceremony and meals and evening reception in a hotel.
I wouldnt think you would have to have seating plan for Buffett really unless you wanted to? I personally wouldnt but its your day
I bought a butterfly and love heart hole punch from tesco £2.49 for three and bought coloured paper from the Poundshop and made my own confetti and table decorations from them.
Rose Petals etc are on Ebay if you wanted them
Im getting my cake from Asda or Marks and Spencer and making cupcakes aswell.
You could have a CD playing in day time for meal and service instead of musician etc?
If you have Tesco Clubcard etc you could exchange some points on Wine etc??
Get flowers that are in season not exotic ones - that will save the pennies
Umm, cant think of anything else at the mo

Hi Jules - I know you have picked the venue but perhaps still keep looking for ones that have enough tables - it might work out cheaper than hiring the furniture?0
