  • lol, very good Not-in-kansas-anymore!!!!!!

https://www.confetti.co.uk have got some loooooooooooooovely camera's on there, with themes and personalisation. Unfortunately they are not cheap tho :(

I am still in two minds as to whether to have them at my wedding as I haven't heard anything positive from brides that had them at their wedding - all I hear is that they didn't bother getting them developed, they were crap shots, or guests didn't use them at all!! I think the idea is a great one though...?!
  • Hey Bridetobeisnotstressedyet...

It does pay to look around we are looking for disposable cameras now but still looking to find the cheepest site....you wouldnt belive how many people sell them :)

I bought mine from Woolworths (cause I work there and got an extra 10% off!). They are the worth it woolworths own range and were about £2.50 each before i had discount. They have ugly white cardboard covering the black camera but im gonna strip it and decorate it! Hope this helps :j

  • I got married 6 months ago, and wish I had known of this thread then! Since I didn't, I'll pass on the knowledge I learned the hard way:

We did our wedding for £1000. (luckily for us, £500 from each set of parents) Here's what I found:

    1. If your bridesmaids love you, they'll buy their own dresses. I did try to make it as nice for them as possible, only saying "You, wear green. And you wear gray. I'd like them to be satin-y and the rest is up to you!" We ordered the dresses from America and they were beautiful.

    2. Use the talents of your friends/family/connections. The groom's grandmother is an expert seamstress, and at 6'1" and 9 stone 5, I didn't think I would be able to find a dress to fit! It turned out that we had an amateur baker in our group of friends. The groom's mother is an excellent soup-maker, so our sit-down lunch in the middle of February was a hit! She also had a history of flower arranging, and bought the flowers and arranged them for next-to-nothing. My mother is fantastic at decorating reception halls. Our local church held the ceremony and reception FOR FREE. The groom's sister is a lovely flautist, and played Pachebel's Canon in D for my entrance, and Ave Maria during the signing of the registry. I did my own hair and make-up, as well as my bridesmaids hair.

    3. The guests don't NEED favours... I couldn't believe all the things that needed to be purchased on the run-up to the wedding. Rings. Gifts for everyone and their dog. Thank-you cards. The list went on, and I was tired of handing over my debit card. In the end, I simply forgot to get favours for the guests...and it turns out that NOBODY EVEN NOTICED. We got many compliments on how nice, elegant, and classy our wedding was, and not even one whinge about "where's my chocolates/sugar-coated almonds/bottle of bubbles/etc. Consider THAT. Just make sure that you spend time with each of your guests, thanking each one personally for coming and taking a bit of time out of your day to spend time with people that made the effort to come.

    4. When I bought anything, I considered where I could use it again. My friends and I made the centrepieces for every table using various glass items, white candles, and greenery from the groom's mother's garden (ivy, etc). And every "glass item" I bought was also to be used in my new home. Such as: a cake platter, glass candleholders. a water pitcher, hurricane lamps, flower vases, etc. That way, I could have them for the day, and not just call the funds a total loss. We also used lamps from Asda that looked like tea lights, wound with ivy, that sit in my living room to this day.

    5. Scrimp on what you can, but don't sell yourself short. Although we cut our costs as much as possible, we allowed ourselves some luxuries - things that were important to us. I got waxed. I required calla lillies for the bouquet (which apparently cost more than the rest of the flowers put together). We wanted fresh fruit and cheese to serve with the soups, and the groom's mother insisted they be from local farms.

I can't think of much else, but will just add some pictures, if possible, to show what £1000 can get if you try. Best of luck in your own weddings!

  • hmm i totally disagree withn the statement 'if your bridesmaids love you, they will buy thier own dresses'

money and love are two different things..
  • I bought my own bridesmaid dress when I was bridesmaid a couple of years ago - and I suppose if I had to give a reason it would have had to been becuase I love Stace and she was worth it! She did get them made by a friend so it only cost $150 AUD (about £75) - and its a really beautiful dress!

I would love to be able to afford to pay for my bridesmaid dresses but I'm not sure if I will be able to so was going to have to consider asking them to pay for their own. I am thinking of giving them a colour only so that they could buy a dress they will wear again. Either that or I will ask them to contribute, haven't decided just yet. Would that really be so bad (my bridesmaids will be mine and OHs sisters, Stace as above and my best friend)???

    It's all so confusing!

We bought bridesmaid dresses for 3 bridesmaids because we asked them to be bridesmaids... Plus the oldest of the 3 was only 14.... My MOH bought her own dress because she wanted to, I had originally asked her so she had a chance to wear her wedding dress again (It doesn't look like a wedding dress) but she wanted a new dress... and one other bridesmaid decided we hadn't asked her because we couldn't afford a dress... That wasn't the case but hey ho, if she wants to buy her own dress then she can be a bridesmaid.... (actually, I didn't know how to tell her I no....) But our dresses only cost £35 each so it's not like they were mega expensive...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • I bought my wedding dress on Saturday and got a good deal by haggling!
The dress I tried on was £545 and I really liked it but told the lady I had seen another dress elsewhere that was only £399 and it was between the two. I also explained that I was on a tight budget and I had to get a flower girl dress for my daughter to and that was what was swaying me to purchase the £399 dress. In the end i got my dress and a FREE flower girl dress worth £100! The dress is going to be matched up to mine and all alterations to my daughters dress are free!
It was excellent service and I would highly reccommend her (not just for the bargin!!)

It was from Do You Believe on Stow Hill in Newport. Let me know if anyone has a look there, and dont forget to haggle the price, nothing is set in stone!

  • also i forgot to say just purchased my wedding insurance, wasnt going to but my mate cancelled her wedding recently and wasnt insured and lost over £800!

I found a really good wedding search engine through Google and there prices start at just £25! That is the cheapest that I have come across and covers you for everything you need!

    http://www.weddinginsurance.co.uk/iwm/

Check it out, I think its worth paying £25 just to cover you for the day, youll prob spend that on something useless anyway!
