  • me and OH have been married before so gifts was an issue but what we have asked for is Irish Ferry vouchers...ya can get them from the Post office and canuse them to pay for our belated honeymoon in oct so I can avoid fireworks!! yay!!
  • make sure you get someone to do some close ups...OH ex wife did that and regrets not having any closeups. Other thought is local college student doing photography might do some for you especially if he/she can use some for their course work
  • getting married Aug 09 woo-hoo

  • Have at long last reached the end of this thread...only 2 weeks worth of reading!!!
Have saved myself a small fortune from reading this thread
Invites handmade easier than I thought ( as I have everything booked I will send them out soon saving on not having to send save the day cards)
Church being paid for by H2B parents (very money saving)
Reception (biggest spend so far) having a buffet reception as getting married at 4pm also 2 drinks per person free room for me and H2B...best bit our guest are being offered room discount £68bb instead of £199 (very money saving!)
Having balloon decorations on table instead of flowers (its the big kid in me although me and H2B have decided never to suck the hellium out of the balloons at weddings anymore now we know how much they cost!!!)
Flowers need to be arranged but I know what i want so wont be forced
Dresses to be sorted although will look around as I have plenty of time (Aug 09)
Best saving is my wedding car my H2B 1972 VW baywindow campervan!! (always wanted to go in a vw campervan!!!) she is also known as the other woman!!
well off to check out everything I have stored in my favourites list since I started reading!!! :)

    Great thread - very informative.
I have done the bulk of my organising in the first three weeks and now can relax a bit.

My budget is £3'500 to £4000 (including honeymoon) and so far things are racking up as:

Ceremony - Registry office (only having witnesses) - £ 140
    Evening reception - buffet for 80 & room hire - £1205
    Wedding night hotel - £ 350
Honeymoon (4 nights in luxury spa hotel) - £ 450
Wedding reception four course meal and drinks
    for 22 people - £ 600
    Printed Wedding Invites - £ 28
Minibus to ferry guests around all day - £ 180
    D.J & Disco 7.30pm to 12.30am - £ 275

and that leaves me about £800 for everything else :rotfl:

gosh! weddings are so bad to plan! i went to cyprus to check it out for teh big day and it wasnt what we thought and so weve decided to get married in prague july 2009 (been there before) but packages are expensive and im wondering if i could do it all myself or if its better to pay the agencies (who im sure will rip me off) any advice?

If you're familiar with the place, can speak the language and have contacts over there then plan it yourself... If not I would be inclined to shop around for an expert....
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • Great tips people!!

One tip I would like to share (which is probably obvious!) is that if you are looking for a very personalised wedding, check out venues and see whether they only do 'wedding packages'. I started by doing a search to see if local venues had uploaded their wedding package info to their websites - many of them had. When I had a look at them, the food for a start was not the sort of thing I was looking for. Some of them didn't include things like cake stands, cutlery even!! And of course, many are unwilling to change the tiniest of details to make it special for you!

So that put me off straight away - paying lots of money for lots of little things that I didn't want and the things I did want, I had to pay extra for? So when I found the place that we've now booked, I was really happy because they DON'T SELL WEDDING PACKAGES!! It's a beautiful Edwardian Manor set in 10 acres of woodland, with a HUGE marquee attached!

SO, I got together with the Wedding and Events Manager and explained everything we wanted, she came back with a quote and bingo!! Wedding to our specifications and not some bland hotel's!! They are very flexible, we have the whole building and grounds to ourselves (another thing I don't like, more than one wedding on - conveyor belt!) and we can chuck confetti everywhere we like! (Another tip - ask how the venues are with confetti being thrown as some won't allow it)

This has not worked out too much more expensive than a package would have been!

    Roll on 16th May 2009!!!!!!!!!!! :T

Tesco have disposable cameras and they also have them in the pound shop sometimes - they're not exactly pretty but think you could disguise them with something.
Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended :p
