The only neutral I have received in five years of selling was a woman who bought a CD from me. It was a fairly rare double CD that had a few light marks on it which I fully described. I put the start price as £2.00, and after a lot of bidding, she won the auction with a bid of £33.00.
She took a while to pay, and when the money order arrived it was in $ not £, so I had to go down to the bank and see if they could accept it. After some scratching of heads, they did. So I posted her CD straight out.
A couple of weeks later I received a neutral feedback saying, "High price for average quality"
She obviously failed to understand that it is the buyer not the seller who controls the price in an auction.
    Immensely frustrating!
Luckily, the handful of other problem buyers since have either not left feedback or left a positive after all.

I had a neutral from someone who wanted a refund but didn't want to post the item back, I was suspicious of the conflicting stuff they wrote in their emails and they were quite aggressive considering they were claiming the item was damaged in transit to them. They opened a dispute (on Christmas day) and I agreed to refund on receipt of the item as per the usual t's and c's for paypal, they still didn't want to post it back so they let it go. I replied to the neutral saying they wanted a refund without returning the goods and it hasn't affected my rating. Don't worry there are lot's of unreasonable people out there;)

So today after four years of trading on Ebay I get a neutral feeback. I must admit I didn`t respond to the email I got from my disgruntled buyer, I couldn`t find the words to respond - so I`ll take it on the chin.
My buyer was unhappy because the items I sold her - two vintage cushion covers - had some feathers left inside them.
Care to share your complaints from buyers!

ok, so it's slightly off topic because it wasn't ebay, it was avon (in a previous life!) but it's on the same topic of PITA customers and you've just reminded me of one.....

placed an order with me for some bubble bath, at that time it was buy-one-get-one-free, and it even stated in the small print that the 'free' one would be chosen at random.

i duly delivered it to her. that night, i kid you not it was about 10pm, i received a really agitated phone call from the woman, she actually wanted me to come and collect it back and give her a refund because........the bubble bath she had chosen was picked because the colour of the bottle matched her bathroom and the free one.............didn't!:rotfl:  :rotfl: sometimes you don't know whether to laugh or cry:rotfl:  :rotfl:

oh yes, she was told to pluck off alright, and actually so was the whole company!:D

I find it helpful to remember that you can't satisfy everyone all the time. There is always going to be a small minority that are never satisfied, no matter how hard you try to please them...
Going slightly off topic, a few years ago there was a programme about the staff of one of the very up-market London hotels.

One of the room service staff said that they actually had customers who would order something and when told that it would be with them in 5 minutes (the kitchen being in the basement and the people in question being several floors up) started saying that was no good and that the expected it NOW.

Obviously bred from the shallow end of the gene pool.
  • A purchaser recently sent me an email after bidding for 4 days to say he couldn't pay for the item as I don't do Paypal.
Okay genuine mistake he didn't look at the payment method but he's not offering to go to the Post Office for a postal order or pay by cheque just a short email.

I've emailed him to give him 'ideas' of alternate payment but not heard anything as yet. Giving him 2 weeks then I'm reporting him to ebay as a non-payer. Can't see as I have any other choice.

funny how those that insist sellers should leave feedback first keep very quiet on these type of topics.

I really like to see one of these buyers sell to each other. Perhaps ebay should create a separate auction site, move these buyers over there and let them complain to each other before releasing them back to the civil world.

Nobody can insist that someone else leaves feedback first.

There is a fundamental problem with the feedback system in that it allows rogue sellers some degree of protection in that if they don't leave feedback buyers are intimidated from leaving a neg in case they get an unjustified one in return.

From the buyer's POV, that is the end of the story.

Of course, sellers have other problems with idiotic buyers (and, possibly, rogue buyers) so sellers see things differently.

I think that the only thing to do is accept that the system is flawed but that it is not really possible to do anything much better simply.

I sold some vintage Barbie stuff and one of the items was a picnic set. I took a colour photograph of all the bits, and listed them all too.

I got a neutral because the buyer thought the picnic basket would be a darker brown than it was

Why does it matter what shade of brown a Barbie picnic basket is?

She said she didn't want to return the items, as her daughter liked the rest of the set, so what else was I supposed to do?!!

I also sold a Lundby dolls house and it's contents all in separate auctions. One of the items was the washing machine. Each auction was in the dolls house section, and had a note on the bottom explaining I was selling a full house and contents so to check my other auctions for more dolls house stuff. One lady complained because she thought she had won a full sized human washing machine for £4 plus £1.50 postage :rotfl:
Here I go again on my own....
  • I think that's petty getting neutral feedback for that.

Personally I don't give a monkeys about feedback I don't wait for someone to give me feedback before I do, I just give it either when I've been paid (some people a lot quicker to pay than others) or when I've posted the item.

As a prospective purchaser it wouldn't personally put me off if someone had a neutral feedback. There's always one 'customer' from hell just the same as in real life shops. I'd look at all their feedback to help me assess the risk factor.

Lifes too short peeps don't you think ??

I've recd 100% feedback on about 250 items bought /sold on e bay. Though I can see that coming to an end shortly with a few of the items I have purchased.
The bloke who sold me fake perfume will be getting neg feedback as soon as I get my refund. He will also hopefully be getting a visit from Trading Standards as they have followed up.
If all his perfume is counterfeit which I think it is he has made over £15,000 in 3 months trading. Thats just based on those who have left feedback. Must admit they are very good counterfeits.
