JSA Sanctions

Was informed by Job Center that my Housing Benefit will be stopped due to first time (13 weeks) Mandatory Work Activity sanction placed on me. I am on income-based, joint claim JSA. We received no JSA last week.
Anyway the claim had me scrambling for information and i came across the following information:
A6III. Although a customer has been sanctioned, they retain their underlying entitlement to income based Jobseekers Allowance and therefore their entitlement to Housing Benefits is not affected by the sanction.
And:
A6. I can confirm that for customers (other than those with joint claim Jobseeker's Allowance) the full amount of their Jobseeker's Allowance payment will not be paid for the full period of 13 weeks.
The website: House of Lords website ( publications.parliament)
I took A6 to mean that although i get no money, being sanctioned, my partner gets paid under our joint claim. In other words, there will be a reduction from, say, £200 a fortnight for a family of three to £100 a fortnight .
The thing is, i received no money last week and i was informed that Housing Benefit will be cut.
What do you think?

I agree with you. The other person in the joint claim should not be penalised and therefore there should be a reduction and not a complete stoppage.
Alos HB is awarded on low income and therefor the claim would still be allowed.
I do believe that there is some liaison between Job Centre Plus and Housing when JSA is stopped and the HB and CTB is automatically stopped (doubtless a case when the computer just says 'NO' ) so it is possible that you need to contact them and explain the situation.
Certainly I would be querying the joint claim situation.0 -

You have no idea how heartening it feels to think you may be on the right track. Thanks a lot.0 -
Whomever at the jobcentre told the OP that misinformation needs a boot up the Aris'.
The OP also needs to apply for Hardship Allowance pronto.0 -
HB will see a change in circumstances and suspend your claim. If you contact them and explain the situation, your HB will be paid again.
Hardship Allowance can be claimed whilst you are sanctioned, however you will receive nothing for the first two weeks of the sanction unless you are deemed vulnerable.0 -
Mandatory Work Activity sanction placed on me
Does that mean you were asked to do some kind of work placement and you didn't do it or something?0 -

The OP's other thread explains it - he was due to go to a placement on the Friday, but did not because he wanted to prepare for an interview on the Monday!0 -
Oh right, I will have a look at it.pickpocketlocket wrote: »The OP's other thread explains it - he was due to go to a placement on the Friday, but did not because he wanted to prepare for an interview on the Monday!0 -

Hello all,
thanks for the response and encouragement. Just to let you all know, I've been running around and have just been arguing on the phone with the people at the Job Center but i can get no joy. They insists that the law does not state that unemployed people on joint claim income-based JSA get reduced income after MWA sanction although every research i've made says that it does. Am i missing something? Anyway,I'm baffled and wondering if this means i have to see some layer?0
