I really hope you are right - if you are, then it might save me about a fiver depending on how long it takes for the switch to take place.
If you can, please will you advise the British Gas call centre manager that his/her staff are consistently giving out incorrect information0 -
I have opted to pull the trigger soon than later and initiated the switch to another provider (EDF BLue + promise). The switch should go through some time in September so will have a little time on a BG standard tarriff, which one I do not know it seems from this forum.0

Because I've been stuck indoors today while the sun shines outside, I decided to look at the WebSaver12 t&c's. The precise wording is that WS12 will be replaced by 'Standard variable prices' (my italics). I am no lawyer, but I think that possibly means something slightly different to 'Standard Variable Tariff'
Hey-ho - we'll find out soon enough!0 -
Websaver12 customers are not new customers!
The difference betwwen the two is negligible for most customers unless the property is vacant for large periods and not using any energy.
If I do nothing does anyone have any idea which tariff I will end up on.
I do not want to be paying a Standing Charge which from the BG email looked to me to be the case.
I ask the question here to find my options before phoning BG.
Thanks.
One other thing.
If I do nothing and get put onto a new tariff, whatever that might be, will I be under contract to that new tariff for any length of time at all, so that when I return to UK next April I will be stuck with the BG tariff and not able to change until my 'new contract' ends???It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -
Although I switched supplier, I got an email from BG last week offering me an Online Variable November 2013 rate to pre register for. This gave savings of 6% on Standard rate, but it was still dearer for me than EDF Blue. If you don't want a standing charge, in my region cheapest was Scottish Power0

This is of interest to me as I am off overseas for 6 months at the end of this September.

I seriously believe that at the beginning of October you will be transferred onto Clear and Simple
You urgently need to find a non-daily-charge tariff!0 -

My problem if that is the case I won't be able to complete any transfer before I leave on 29 September.
I'll certainly move from BG when I return to UK in 6 months but in the meantime I suppose I have to bite the bullet and pay a standing charge even though the house will be empty and no gas used. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -
Thanks for that.

So long as you make a note of the meter reading before you go abroad, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to complete the transfer online from wherever you are located. I may be wrong, but I don't think anybody needs to visit the premises.
Make sure you read the whole of this thread before you make your decision - there are two schools of thought about whether or not you will remain on a no standing charge tariff after Websaver12!0 -
It looks like I'll be automatically transferred to the Standard Tariff which as I won't be using any gas or elec for 6 months is fine with me.
I'll swap to whoever is cheapest next April
Out of interest does anyone know what the Standing Charge for BG Online Variable will be?It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -

If you move on to Standard or Clear and Simple, there are no tie-ins, other than the time it takes to make the switch itself.
Thanks for the confirmation above about what you've been told about your rolloff. However, I do agree with other posters on this thread that it really isn't "Clear and Simple"!
