Does anyone know if theres a list somewhere of what is considered premium brand goods?
I primarily buy but once or twice a year have a clearout and most of what i sell would be named secondhand goods.

Ebay are not great on putting things down in writing :(

However, since they consider Marks and Spencer and River Island to be branded I think it safe to assume anything with a good name will be restricted.

If anyone sells Primark I would be interested to know if they are un restricted.

Thing is, in all of this, it's eBay's site - they can do what they like - and they don't publish lists of names to stop people going for the gaps in that list that they haven't thought of. I remember back when I registered just over ten years ago now they used to insist that accounts based on webmail addresses had credit cards registered. There was always someone on the forums there to recommend which webmail addresses they knew about and which they didn't - I found out that they didn't like my then-current Yahoo account but did like TMobile email, so I registered that account to get round the requirements for registering a cc since I have never owned one. I think they lifted that requirement years ago - my Hotmail account is linked to my original account.

I think they work on the basis that unregistered businesses are likely to have a load of fake stuff, and therefore put limits on those accounts. They also might believe that private sellers are not in need of the income stream so will not be affected by having the brakes put on.

Like Ulsterbeef I very rarely buy clothes online at all - I prefer to try before I buy, particularly shoes as I have flat feet which need wide, thick soles and I like to try out proper shoes in the shop. By the same token I don't want to sell them, particularly as I wear things out and am not a particular fashionista.

  • If you try to put a listing on, you dont have to go through to the end, when you reach the pull down list click on that and it will give you a list of brands.

I would say that covers what eBay thinks is a "premium" brand. Anything not appearing on there should not count towards your 3 a month?

Not a failsafe but a good guide?
  • Is there an alternative to Ebay? It seems to me that over the years they have tried to put more and more restrictions on individual sellers.

Not in this sort of market, no. The other sites don't have the same buyer traffic and I don't believe Amazon allow clothing to be sold by private sellers.

I sell upwards of 50 high end label items a month and have never been limited, including when I started listing them in February. Is this because I have been a member since 2005?

I believe it's only private sellers that have this restriction.

I was told that they will be reviewing sellers and checking and may increase the quantities you can sell. But they could not tell me who and when, although I was promised a review as I made a complaint.... Maybe eveyone should complain?

  • I feel the same as other people who have tried to list branded items on ebay. I have had an ebay account which I have used on and off for years, but this year have decided to have a major clear out of some clothes and other expensive items - mainly because I no longer wear them, as they were expensive gifts from an ex. I am not prepared to sell them for 99p, so have relisted them at what I regard as a realistic price, when it is free listing weekend.
However, I was refused this weekend as I had reached my seller branded items limit - which I was unaware of and appears to be an unwritten rule. This seems to be targeting private sellers with one or two items to sell, rather than sellers of counterfeit items.
Surely this will only encourage people to have several seller accounts or get friends or family to list them. I have come accross re-sellers, and those with several user names, recently when selling my old Mulberry handbag. The buyer contacted me under different names, and often buys Mulberry bags on ebay from private sellers, presumably only to resell at a profit. She then asked for a refund when she realised there was no profit in my bag for her. Of course I gave her a refund for fear of negtaive feedback.
I wish there was an alternative to ebay.
