E-bay top brand selling restriction

Today I tried to re-list some Tommy Hilfiger shirts that I have to sell. I am a private seller with 100% feedback. I only sell what I don't want anymore from my stuff, I am not a trader.
Apparently EVERY seller has now got a restriction on their account that they cannot sell more than 3 'Top Brand' items of clothing, shoes accesories in each 30 day period. (e-bay can't provide a list of what those top brands are yet)
Having spoken to a rep on the phone, this is to help prevent fraud and fake items being sold
So from now on you can only sell crap on e-bay. I guess that also means there will be less top quality stuff to buy as well?
A totally rediculous policy that penalises all genuine sellers....and you buyers that will have limited choice from now on....
Thanks e-bay!

Seems fair enough to me. I'd assume business sellers don't have that restriction. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

I have been hit with this recently and it is a nightmare. I have been mainly buying on ebay for over 10 years and just selling some stuff but had a huge clear out and have loads of old clothes that are NWT that don't fit and I wanted to sell. I am having to do it in dribs and drabs which is a pain. I am not a business seller and all clothes are over 2 clothes sizes so not like I have lots of each item but its very annoying. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

I like some of what they consider to be premium brands - seriously, high street shops like M&S and Debenhams!! I could understand it if someone was flogging 12 Chanel handbags, but three boys shirts from M&S - seriously!0

They have to apply to sell premium brnads and be rated on their feedback and complaints. Fair enough.... but why not Police the bad people instead of penalise everyone.
Perhaps; From now on no one is allowed to drive more than 3 days a month in their car if they own an expensive brand car,as some people have accidents and drive with no insurance. If the Police think you might be ok, they will let you drive more days a week, but only when they get around to checking on you to make sure you are not a bad oneNO to pasty tax We won!!!! This is strange. I've been selling a fair bit of Tommy Hilfiger stuff recently, I'm a private seller and I haven't heard anything about this?0

Seems to be everyone according to e-bay. It means I can only sell 3 items of clothing a month.... surely that can't be right?NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

we also had this
and believe me they will just suddenly close your account if they think you are doing dodgy !!(well thier idea of dodgy ) i had ebay for more than 12 years with no probs, but soon as i listed a lot of named brands we were gone
and they are linked to paypal , they withheld our money for many months

I'm currently having this problem too.
Since when has "River Island" been a top brand?0 -
This restriction has been running for months. Its virtually a restriction of trade. They cant wait for you to list on free listing days then youre restrcited to what you can list!! I wish there was a serious alternative to ebay and paypal, theyre trying to "force" everyone into becoming business sellers, so you have to take more of a responsibilty under sellers "business terms".
Alternatively just register as a business and list as much as you like!! Nothing seems to be any different!!0 -
