Scottish Power Fixed Tariff

Dont understand but MSE article on switching states you can get £70 for switching to Scottish Power through Moneysupermarket but when you click link it only states £30!

These things change faster than you can imagine - I tried to call Moneysupermarket to get some clarification, and their phone lines were switched off.

Personally, I would only choose to deal directly with the individual companies, although the comparison sites can be useful for getting a general idea of what is available. Even the individual companies will not always give you the complete picture over the phone - you have to do some serious research, and a lot of your own calculations, so that you can extract the best deal from the people in the sales departments.

That was what I thought. However, I wonder if we need to wait until moneysupermarket cashback has received before switching? That of course runs the risk that the tariff will be withdrawn ... but as it has only just launched, I'd find that surprising.

Any experience on whether a switch (especially during the cooling off period) does or does not invalidate the cashbach?

Can we contact MS and ask them to inform SP>

I've just spoken with Scottish Power, they have changed my application from the November 2013 plan to the January 2014 one over the phone.
The girl I spoke to stated that I had not cancelled my original application, that it just been amended.
Hopefully I will still get my cashback!

I spoke to Scottish Power today and got a different answer. I am 2 weeks into my switch to the November 2013 product. The Jan 2014 prices are the same for me but I was told that I had to stick with my current application and then ask to change to the Jan 2014 product as soon as the switch is complete at no charge.

BTW - how can it be called a Jan 2014 fix when the fix ends on Dec 31st 2013 ?

Assuming you switched via the recent £70 cashback deal (as did I), I wonder if switching again at this point might affect the cashback?

I recently moved to SP on the £70 casback deal but have forgotten how it is paid or how to track it/chase up through Money Supermarket, any clues?

Out of curiousity, has your switch progressed beyond 'Step 1' yet? I'm 17 days in, and still stuck on 'Step 1'. I'd sort of expected them to have contacted my previous supplier by now.

I think it should get automatically paid to the bank account you gave during your switch application. IIRC payment is made around 3 months after switching, no doubt somebody will correct me if I've got that wrong.

I'm 14 days in and still at step 1

That's what I decided to do. Indisputably switch to the deal that MS referred me for (and get the cashback) and then under the terms of my new contract do a sideways switch ... probably leaving that second switch as long as possible until the rumblings on the grapevine suggest that it is close to being withdrawn.

That's my plan too. Let's hope we don't leave it too late.

BTW, I'm switching from E.ON and am surprised not to have received a call begging me to stay. Don't they care about losing customers?

Word is SP are pulling their fix TODAY (Tuesday) so phone now if you want to swap over.

Me? I don't trust that it won't invalidate my cashback, because possibly cashback is paid for a switch to a specific version of the product. As it is only an extra 2 months' extension and plunges me into deal hunting in the middle of winter, I think on balance I will stick with my Nov 2013 plan, get my £70 cashback, and look to switch/fix again Aug/Sept of next year before new price rises are announced.

Would be interested when all this is over to hear on this thread form anyone who did phone them up and change so they went onto the newer product - did you still get your cashback in the end?
