Neighbours abandoned cat

Hi all,
Our "lovely" neighbours finally moved out about 3 weeks ago but they left their cat behind! We fed it the first few days and then informed the land lord when we saw him.
I've just been out in the garden and straight away it started to meow at me and made its way over to our garden. He/she is very thin! suppose it was stupid of us to assume that the land lord would actually feed the poor thing!! So we gave it a bowl of food which it has wolfed down and then wanted to come!
We already have a cat, and our cat would not appreciate a brother or sister, and I am wary of letting it stay as we do not know what vaccinations etc it has had.
Is there anywhere (ie charity)we can take it to be checked over? I don't want to have to pay an arm and a leg at our vets as we really cannot afford it. If it is OK health wise and gets its jabs we may be able to find a home for it.
I've just read on the RSCPA website that they wont come out for a healthy cat, so not sure what we are supposed to do with it??

Local no-kill shelter? Contact the RSPCA to hunt down the former owners for a potential prosecution. I wouldn't leave a cat out alone for any length of time when winter's coming.0

Try the Cats Protection League http://www.cats.org.uk/adopt-a-cat/your-cat-into-our-care/
they might be able to advise you#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I agree, the RSPCA may not come out but there is usually another organisation that might. Local vets may be willing to advise on who to contact, or if you tell us what part of the country you are in someone here might be able to suggest somewhere.0

RSPCA can prosecute for abandonment, this is not a healthy cat it is malnourished. Try Purrsinourhearts forum if you can 't find a rescue locally that can take this cat on. The cat isn't really the landlord's responsibility any more than it is yours unfortunately.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

These lovely neighbours of yours did they leave an address?
if not try sending a letter to them at their 'old' address perhaps they have mail forwarding.
or cats protection league and let them find them?
has the cat got access to food and water and some shelter for the night, nights are drawing in cold.0 -
The abandoned cat isn't really the landlord's problem so I'm not surprised that they haven't take any action.
The weather is still quite mild, so as long as the cat has access to food, fresh water and some shelter it really wouldn't be necessary for you to allow the cat into your home while you try to make arrangments for its onward move.
I second Fire Fox's suggestion about going onto the Purrs site. I think they have a list of shelters which you can access the details of geographically.0 -
Hi all,
Sorry not be able to reply!
I know the cat is not the Land lords responsibilty per se, but its not ours either and I would have thought being as it was attached to his house he would call cats protection of similar or atleast feed the poor thing.
Anyways, I have called cats protection this morning and got a code to get a check up at the vet so i will get an appointent with ours ASAP. We then see if we can keep him/her or find a new home for it.
its such a cute little thing and really affectionate, how anyone can abandon it is beyond me!
The landlord doesnt have a forwarding address, he has had lots of debt collectors calling and debt letters through so I'm sure he wish he did!0 -

People who are not cat lovers often think cats are wild so can fend for themselves. Maybe he did make a couple of calls but most rescues are full at present. Or maybe he misunderstood that he was expected to deal with the cat. Also sounds like the landlord has a lot on his plate with that property.

How did you get this? I am in exactly the same situ as you and although I have found a home for my 'foster kitty', it would be nice to hand it over and say I had had it checked.0 -
