Thos Cook Cash Passport processed 2 month old transcation the DAY AFTER card emptied

I've had a Thomas Cook Cash Passport pre-pay euro card for the lst couple of years and like it's convenience very much.
However, I'm about to fall out with them. I went into Thomas Cook on Bank Holiday Monday as I knew there was a bit of money left on the card from out last holiday 2 months ago and asked for a cashout, and they duly exchanged what euros were left on the card at a less than favourable rate. As it was a bank holiday this would obviously have been processed the next working day (Tuesday). The next day (Wednesday) I get a text balance alert to say the card balance is EU-104. The card hasn't been use since returning from hopliday 2 months ago and when I checked online after returning from holiday all transactions had been processed.
It turns out one of the transactions had only been processed for pre-approval. Too much of a coincidence that the transcation finally got processed the day after the card balance is emptied though isn't it?
They now want me to pay off the negative balance at a different rate than the one used for the cashout on Monday so I'm giong to be out of pocket through no fault of my own.
Wondered if anyone else out there had anything similar happen to them on one of these cards?

Didn't you keep track of your spending?0

Perhaps its because the op does keep track he emptied the account pdq............Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

Why does the OP have to pay at all? I thought the whole point of these pre-pay cards is that you can only spend what you pre-pay, ie they aren't credit cards. Was a credit agreement signed? If not how do TC intend to enforce repayment of the credit they've provided?0

When he spent, the card had credit........but when he cashed out the amount left on the card it had not been updated with the previous purchase..........the holiday euro debit had not gone through the system, the op will pay, but the pound/euro conversions will mean he will pay more than is owed.Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

It sounds like TC screwed up and paid out the full amount on the card not accounting for outstanding pre-approvals. The question remains - how do TC intend to enforce repayment of credit they've provided, in the absence of a credit agreement? These cards aren't supposed provide credit, that's the whole point of them! When he spent, the card had credit........but when he cashed out the amount left on the card it had not been updated with the previous purchase..........the holiday euro debit had not gone through the system, the op will pay, but the pound/euro conversions will mean he will pay more than is owed.
Perhaps the OP should take legal advice but AIUI he has no obligation to pay anything, let alone suffer a loss because of rip-off exchange rate markups.0 -

When he cashed out the euro amount they used a shocking rate to convert to pounds, and paid him in pounds, now,to settle the euro debt they want him to pay the euro debt (probably in pounds) at another shocking rate,it is these two conversions that eat up the money.Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

TC should pay for their own mistake. Just like most other TC card users will pay for their mistake of using this card instead of one which gives better exchange rates.Because s/he incurred the expenditure?
If the OP doesn't want to pay for their expenditure, who do they suggest should pay for them?
About exchange rates, that's the way the cookie crumbles. They could have moved the other way.0 -
What was the transaction that was only pre-approval, it wasn't a purchase from Thomas Cook by any chance? My OH made a purchase by debit card on a Thomas Cook flight and it took 4 weeks to show on her bank account.
'Didn't you keep track of your spending?'
@ Bob the Saver, not all of us are perfect, the problem with these cards is that you can't get a balance when abroad, that's why I hate the bloody things, when you are on holiday enjoying yourself it is to make a purchase then forget about it or perhaps think you used another payment method, anyways, surely in the OP's case Thomas Cook should have picked up the fact that there was a pending transaction or at least an alert that there was still some activity going on.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0
