  • Have updated my starting balance on the form....not a huge difference really but don't want to cheat!! ;) Good luck everyone!!:D
    Mortgage 12.12.12 £55842 12.12.13 £42716 14.12.14 £28837 13.12.15 £25913
Mortgage OP £50/£600 House Fund £420/£5000
  • Wondering if I've bitten off slightly more than I can chew with this target to clear the mortgage - it relies on me taking my early release, i.e. redundancy, from my current job and finding another one that pays well enough but is much more enjoyable. Nice plan, though!

Need to update my sig but all very difficult when typing on a phone...

Happy Christmas, everyone, and Happy New Mortgage-Free Challenge!

Updated my starting balance using the update form. Only £50 less than I thought it would be, but pays to be honest :)

    Thanks,

  • Off to update my form now. Does this thread stay fairly busy throughout the challenge? Not sure I am ready to commit to a diary, but it would be good to have regular updates of everyone's progress.

    Good luck everyone :)

Yay day one on this challenge. My happiness is reduced by the fact I can't make any big OPs till May, but we have cut down our term from 22 to 15 years so we should be paying nearly £600 off the capital every month. My first update in 3 months will only be £1800 but the next one will be much higher as then we will have another 10% we can OP in May.

Hopefully it will be a wonderful yet frugal Christmas for everyone. Luckily I save my survey vouchers towards presents so have saved quite a bit by giving leisure and book vouchers from CP and buying off Amazon with Toluna/SBs.

    Good morning ,

I just wanted to wish everyone a good start to the challenge. I am looking forward to results each quarter and want to thank FB for all his hard work.

There was an article in the newspaper yesterday (I think it was the Evening Standard) where they talked about a drop in mortgages for first-time buyers, but an increase in people becoming mortgage free. It made me chuckle as I am sure that people in this forum contributed a great deal to such increase. Well done !

Mr Carney, who replaces Sir Mervyn King next June, used a speech to suggest central banks should not worry about inflation but instead target keeping interest rates low to reduce jobless figures.
