Just given my final update on MFiT-T2, so here I am bright and breezy ready for challenge T3! I hit my target of reducing our mortgage by £66471, but it's a LARGE mortgage, so the next challenge is to get it down by a further £50K. To that end I have £70.95 left over to start this challenge.
I have a couple of spreadsheets that I use. One is super complicated and charts virtually every penny of savings, investments and mortgage that we have. I have investments that are designated to pay off the mortgage, but we're still investing at present. So one column tracks the investments minus the mortgage, which currently stands at about £50k down. So the end of this challenge, if we achieve the goal, should see us mortgage neutral i.e. enough in designated savings to pay down the mortgage if we wanted/needed to.
The other spreadsheet has a house shape with bricks marked with lots of different values. I colour several bricks in every month when I overpay or offset. Looking forward to a day some time in the future when it's completely coloured in!MFiT-T3 Number 61 Reduce mortgage by £50000Mar 13 £5660/11.32% June 13 £12513/25.03% Sept 13 £16951/33.90% Sept 14 £38391/78.78% paid offMFiT-T2 Number 34 Reduce mortgage by £66471Dec 12 100% paid off!0 -
Hi guys
Trying to get back into the swing of checking here.
I've just sent through my revised starting point it was a few grand more than I anticipated it would be.
Although we started in the MFi3-T2 we pulled out about halfway through when our finances took a dive (having a baby isn't great for them!). We have some debt to pay off (0% but to family so want to get it gone asap) and then we can focus on rebuilding our savings and clearing the mortgage.
Both me and DH are more focussed on our finances now, which was always the problems in the past it was just me with him spending. Now we have reigned ourselves in and realise that we aren't actually missing out on things, we should find we have more pennies floating around that we can throw at the mortgage.
We haven't set a huge target, but as we have an IO mortgage it'll be a stretch to get there.
Good luck everyone (assuming the planet makes it through 12/12/12)
