Can employee be sacked for being a few minutes late?

Agreed re levels of offence and rulings.
Camera was possibly trained on the entrance/exit so they saw what time he arrived and left. In jobs where a timesheet is to be filled in it obviously means something - whether pay is involved or not. Although I do concede that someone may well be inclined to disregard lateness and early finishing as long as it is vaguely within their 9-5 shift timings. He could not have done this with a clocking in system so should not do so with a timesheet either. It is of importance to the employer if not to him.
Not so important that the employer in this case had to be told of this.
A timesheet in many places is not used for payroll but only there because it is law to have one, for the fire service etc
I timesheet is not a clocking in machine so it would be wrong to compare them, they can have different purposes.
( even tho I compared them in an earlier post

Yes but if it IS in a place that requires it by law then surely it is of paramount importance? We certainly don't have them where I work but hourly paid employees must clock on.0 -

Just wanted to point out there is no such thing as instant dismissal, employers should have a disciplinary policy, which includes investigations, right to be accompanied etc.
If an employee does not follow a fair procedure they will almost certainly lose at a tribunal - even if the employee is guilty of dishonesty, look up the ACAS code of conduct for Grievance and Discipline.0 -

That's totally wrong. If the employee is found guilty of gross misconduct then the employer can instantly dismiss said employee.0 -
Not the issue of lateness or leaving early but the issue of having to complete timesheets by law.
Yes I understood that but the point is the same, I think you are over stating the point.
It reminds me of the USA who now seems to accuse it's own citizens of being a terrorist at the drop of a hat.
As said before, yes the timesheet should have been filled in correctly but lets keep this in perspective, throwing terms around such as " paramount importance" tends to not help to do that.0 -

it could, but you could keep things in perspective but that seems just as unlikely too
