Whilst I agree that there's a shortage of social housing, the mortgage rate is exceptionally low at the moment and very few people have to live on the minimum wage alone as there are so many extra benefits available.
the mortgage rate isnt the value of the property tho.
its easier to buy a 50k house with say 5% interest rate than a 150k house with 1.5% interest rate.
For a start the former requires much lower income.
Anyone who is childless and on min wage will not qualify for much of any topup benefits. Childless single adults are the vulerable part of society as they get the least government help, and ironically of course the biggest shortfall of social properties is single bed's.0 -
