I am (reluctantly) moving to a smaller property within the next few weeks. With the under occupancy charge, plus changes to council tax benefit next year I will need to find approx another £80 a month. In my current situation I could just about manage it, however should my circumstances change it could be too much of a struggle and I can't take that risk. I'd rather do it now when I still have a choice, than find myself in a situation where I HAVE to move very quickly to keep my head above water.

ive talked to my housing association.... they told me that he only 1 bed places they could mobe me to were way outside my local area, and , with the disability that i have, they wouldnt want to move me there anyway!

like a lot of people, im caught between a rock and a hard place,

lose all secirity and get my rent paid .... or keep the security and lose benefit.

    it isnt a choice.

i didnt choose to be registered blind.

with all the exceptions, for old people, disabled, I doubt this new rule will save any money, families with kids are unlikely to be hit as not many families have spare bedrooms, young single people are now on shared allowance anyway and those with their own flats have more than likely been given only a one bedroom place, for a young single person to be even given a single place is rare, all but never are they given more than one bedroom.

I thought this law came about because a lot of older people are living in 3-4 bedroom places and it was meant to get them to move, but what have the government done..excluded them again.

So for the few people that this rule will affect, I think they will not move but just pay the 14 or 24% and stay where they are, so all the Government has done is tax the poorest again, whilst not raising any funds and most likely costing the tax payer for the admin and appeal process that will be put in place and not freeing up any family houses.

Many families with kids will be hit because of the age criteria. For example a couple with 2 children (boy aged 8 and girl aged 7) in a 3 bedroomed house, will be deemed to only need 2 bedroom, so they will lose 14 per cent. Or a couple with 2 daughters aged 12 and 14 will also only need 2 bedrooms.

Mixed sex children can share until they are 10 and single sex can share until age 16 (although they are consulting on whether to increase the same sex sharing to age 21).

However, many families I have spoken to in this situation will pay and stay as the situation will change in the long term, plus families with children are in receipt of more benefits and therefore could possibly afford to stay.

i totally acept that families will struggle in the short term.

but while there is a dire lack of 2 bed social housing, the single disabled will suffer long term.....

child related benefits are excessive, so the impact is limited.

i live in a rural village. my dusabillity means that my sypport is here.... any social life i have is here. but there are no 1 bed properties here.

so i mone 20 miles ( could be another country as far as i am concerned) or i lose £14 pf my £130 a week. amd thats ihout the council tax changes .....

as with most/all these new rules, they don't like to shout about it but there are a lot of exceptions to the rule, Old person, those just out of care, disabled people will not be affect by some of these rules.

all pensuiner5s .... but the only disableed people not affected are single people, that have an overnight, non resident varer.

i presume that most people that receive ivernight vare. get it from someone they already live with

Also it doesnt apply to pensioners, yet they are the ones sleeping in the living rooms of their 3 bedroom semi detatched huge HA property!!
I have two living near me, one next door. They are stunning family homes, yet they both refuse to leave even when offered a lovely 2 bedroom bungalow in the nearest village. Its mad x

Please can you enlighten us why you think its mad that someone wants to stay in there own home.

i dont think its mad at all!
i am in this position myself.

tere are no 1 bed council/housing association properties in my area/

my option is to move to a private let and top up the LHA allowance.

either way, i will have to pay £14 a week out of £130 a week. plis 20% xounxil tax.

the difference between people like me and people on JSA is .... its higgly unlikely that i can ever better my situation.

so people who cannot work because of illness/dosability will be living hand to mouth, with no chance of evert bettering their situation.

if you have a wasing machine, just pray it doesnt reak down because you wont be able to repair it.

and my village doesnt have a laundertettee.

guess it wont matter if i snell a bit

I don't think it makes your argument stronger by exaggerating!

Anyone who lives in social housing that has more room than they need should be forced to leave and find a property that is more suitable to them, this then frees up properties for larger families who are more suitable. This should apply even if they can find the shortfall in the rent if the depend on benefits
