Why don't you contact the people that the parcel is addressed to ? I assume you have their name and address...
Yes, but why should I pay for a letter, a envelope, and a stamp?
Just out of interest OP, are you waiting for a parcel yourself? If so, is there a possibility that your parcel has also been misdelivered.
    Nope.

OK, how do we get rid of this parcel without paying money? I think I'll e-mail the company the parcel comes from if there's no way on contacting Yodel, I can't think of anything else to do that doesn't cost money?

Don't be so mean. Contact the sender and / or the recipient. What goes around comes around.

Oh for heavens sake. How mean!! Remember, what goes around comes around.....and I hope it does so in your case as that is just so mean and spiteful! Sadly more and more typical of Broken Britain!

Mean? Why mean? If I don't do anything, the recipient will contact Yodel or the sender when they don't get the parcel, and they'll be sent a new parcel, and I assume the sender will be able to claim the cost of the lost parcel from Yodel. Yodel are the only people who will suffer.

This is a money saving site. Why on earth would anyone want to waste money of helping Yodel? It seems the opposite of money saving.

Anyway, as I said I'll e-mail the sender, hopefully they will be able to get Yodel to deal with it.

well if your going to be a prat about it, send the letter with an invoice for the cost of the stamp, envelope, paper and not to mention the ink you used, make sure to give your address, so that this customer can point the finger at you and direct the company they have purchased said item from, you then tell that company you want money for all your hard effort

You must really be a most unpleasant person to take such exception to posting a letter to the intended recipient of the parcel. Your meanspirited and nasty attitude will cause distress to the person waiting for the parcel - not to mention that Yodel have already marked it as "delivered" so the people sending the parcel and the intended recipient will have a real struggle to get it sorted and perhaps in several months time, some sort of compensation may be paid out. So no, it won't be Yodel who suffer because of their error - it will cause a lot of hassle for the other parties involved to get it sorted.

It may be a birthday gift for a loved one, perhaps a child, who will be disappointed - while you didn't make the error in delivery, your horrible churlish attitude will certainly compound an error which could be quickly rectified. I can only hope you attract like karma with your disgraceful attitude.

Glad it wasn't just me that thought that was an awfully selfish attitude to take. If I had a parcel to me I would do my hardest to contact the people it should have got to, not be a penny-pinching miser and (as some above say) threaten to destroy it. Utterly utterly pathetic. Kindness should be its own reward.

If I write to them saying I have the parcel, what do you expect them to do? Drive a couple of hours to collect it? Send me the money to cover the postage for the parcel? Try to get in contact with Yodel (from the stories online, it doesn't seem to be easy)? Or contact the sender? None of those is very convinent, contacting the sender seems the easiest, and I have already done that.

By contacting the sender instad of sending a letter, A) I don't have to spend any money, B) the customer doesn't have to try and convince the sender that the parcel hasn't reached them, C) the sender will be contacted sooner as there is no wait for the letter to arrive.

I don't see any benefit to anyone (other than the shop I buy the stamp and envelop from) from me sending a letter to the customer, and it will cost me money and the customer lots of stress and time. Personally I would far rather just recieve a parcel late, than get a letter from some stranger saying they had my parcel miles away.

I expect them to be grateful knowing where their good are and get straight on the blower giving Yodel all kinds of hell for being useless, and arrange for it to be collected from you and delivered to the correct address.

And they probably will. And if they don't and decide to drive to you to collect it, that's up to them. Either way, everyone happy, and all it'll cost you is the price of a stamp. Less if they're listed in the phone book because you can look them up on 192.com and get their actual phone number and call them (which probably adds up to less than a stamp).

Like all courier companies, when you've got a good driver, it's good, when you have a bad one it's abysmal. OP I understand you don't want to be out of money, but FGS, I do think that's a bit petty.

The person the intended parcel was for may have some come back if it's not delivered, but what about all those drivers who are signing for goods on the recipients behalf. There has been many complaints of this on these forums recently. It happened to me too. Why not attempt to make things easier by contacting either yodel or the recipient and let them know what's happened.
