Christmas? Way too early to think about it lol.

I have no idea what I'm doing at Christmas, so can't even think about getting food in for a Christmas dinner, as I have no idea who'll be cooking it this year!
  • we always have xmas dinner at mil's and boxing day dinner at mums, but we still look out for bargains for our own xmas dinner. we don't go mad and have a buffet as well or buy loads of chocs etc as don't see the point in putting on all the weight to lose. we usually only have breakfast on xmas day / boxing day then xmas dinner at dinner time i.e 5pm so no need for a buffet. might have some snacks like crisps / nuts but usually too full x

Don't get to the big supermarkets often as 30 mile round trip (only morrisons is local -4m away). Finally got to our nearest Tesco's yesterday. Anyhow fresh sides of salmon currently half price £8 a kilo instead of £16 at the fish counter. Any of you using salmon for your xmas menus may want to buy and freeze ahead. (Thanks to paddy on hotukdeals who posted this just before I set off). He was going to buy 2 filets of salmon for £6 until assistant pointed out the offer. Could easily get 6/7 fillets from the piece I brought. Asked the assistant and she reckoned the offer was on for another week (think she said til 25th Sept).

Kerrygold butter on offer at £1 per pack.
Also tesco introduced a butter under the YUM brand - this is currently on BOGOF- £2.60 a 500g pack (so 1Kg butter for £2.60 equiv of 65p a pack). If going for it do check pack carefully as they also have spreadable butters and other spreads under this brand. Sorry forgot to note when this was going off offer. Useful for those baking ahead. Does anyone know if you can freeze butter?

Love this thread but haven't got around to organising myself yet but putting by the odd thing - hope this helps someone.:D
  • Yes, Morgy, you can definitely freeze butter.

Don't miss the Tesco wine "glitch" HERE.

Tried and tested on the mini-bottles tonight.
Nice to add to hamper pressies etc as well as drinking yourself.

  • My mum bought a joint of meat two months ago thats currently sitting in our freezer in the garage. Cant remember whether its pork lamb or beef but it was £4.89 reduced from something like £11! That's the main meat for Xmas Day sorted I suppose lol
