Waitrose had almost a pallet load of Heston Blumenthal clementine Christmas puds and puff pastry mince pies, front of store today. Didn't check the puds but mince pies had a use by date before Christmas.

Do mince pies and Christmas pud freeze ??

Mince pies freeze fine. Don't freeze the pud though - just let it mature and forget about the date. It will just get better. I always have them out of date (sometimes 2 years) and they are superb. The alcohol preserves them.

Jim Beam mustard from American Sweets arrived this week. Ocado order yesterday saved over £17 on offers and included more ice cream for Christmas and I have threatened OH if it gets eaten again. :D May hunt for decent mince pies and freeze as OH is bound to scoff most of the ones he makes Christmas Eve.

Added a few lovely AF bargains to my stash. Chilli jam to serve with cheese and biscuits 69p, seafood sauce 29p, sweet chilli flat breads to serve with pate 2 for £1. :j

Also got YS carrot and swede steamed, mashed and in freezer along with YS braised red cabbage ready for Christmas day.

Love watching my bargain stash slowly starting to grow.:D

Hope all your preparations are going well and not breaking the bank.

My husband says the best bit of Christmas is the Christmas Day buffet tea (or supper depending how stuffed we are from lunch).

My mother confessed that she and father also thought this so we've decided to dispense with the roast duck n nut roast with 5 veg at lunch and just go for the cold sliced meats, salad, veggie sausage rolls, Twiglets, cheeses etc plus mince pies, cheesecake, Christmas pudding, custard, cream, ice cream

This is great because although it's not necessarily less expensive overall, it means more stuff can be bought in advance, stashed in freezer and cooked on Christmas Eve. Might find some offers/bargains

I'm on the hunt for offers on pickles and piccalilli at the moment having finished my sweet stuff list.

Any recommendations for ready made veggie nibbly stuff please ie are Linda McCartney veggie sausage rolls any good and does sliced Quorn taste like anything ??
