Facebook just like eBay

I've just come to the conclusion that Facebook selling is not unlike eBay selling, except people are less hidden.
I listed something and then bumped it with a reduced price as it is really getting in my way. I immediately had a really low offer, which I declined and said I was as low as I would go, so user did the usual 'ha, you'll get no where near that Hun as its only worth what I'm offering, pm me when you realise that and can accept my offer'
Log back in 15 minutes later to find an offer near to my price but also two, other people saying they'll take it at my price. I have accepted the first one that offered my price and they are collecting in a few minutes.
Meanwhile I have the original user back on the thread saying that I must sell to her as the rules state the first to ask for item gets first refusal, but she still won't pay my asking price but will up her offer a bit.
I've spoken to admin and they say the rules are I only need to accept the first offer at my stated price and that they will monitor this other user, but she has now tried adding me as a friend and has posted again on the thread saying the item is hers.

A lot of people on the FB selling pages think that the first person to comment on an item is the one who "has" to have it.
I've seen plenty of debates on there about how Tracey asked first but can't collect til Tuesday when she gets paid, but Stacey can collect today..
I've had people comments on my stuff, but at the same time I've also had people send me a message asking about it.
I was selling something for £25 - not only did they ask a million questions about it, but they got me down to £18, agreed to sell... to then say "but I can't collect til I get me munnie on Monday...."
It was Tuesday at this point..
I got sick of seeing the same crap being bumped every few hours.0 -
I agree that Facebook has issues, every now and then I walk away from it as it does my head in. I paticularly dislike being called 'hun' or 'babe' all the time, but that is probably just me showing my age.
However I soon go back as it does seem to work for certain items. I've had two lots of stuff collected today, both bulky items that I had no other real venue for selling.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Being called "hun" or "babe" does my head in too. That an text type. I pretty much ignore anyone who text types at me. :rotfl:
I list on Facebook using a secondary FB account so I'm not directly traceable unless someone is collecting stuff.
I'm actually I'm quite impressed your group has rules at all) because all the ones I am in have none at all. One claims to not allow any business sellers but, in actuality, there's plenty using and abusing the page for just that.
To the best of my knowledge, any rules there might be are purely arbitrary and not in the least enforceable anyway. What I think the group have is some good etiquette guidelines and it makes sense to follow them if you want it to be a professional and pleasant environment. I don't think anyone can actually force you to sell anything to anyone at any time really. It's not like them saying "I'll have it" is like you signing a contract or anything!
I find people on Facebook really try it on sometimes. I listed something - selling for at least £40 everywhere on the net (including in ebay completed listings) for £35 and got offers ranging from £15 to £20 for it. The only reason I put it on FB was because I didn't want to faff with posting it off because it was heavyish and the postage would be high. In the end, I listed it on ebay and sold it for £42 collection only to a very happy buyer. And because she paid cash, I avoided paypal fees anyway. Only once have I listed anything on Facebook and had a reasonable offer for it. I expect to get knocked down a bit but the folks in my groups all seem to want something for next to nothing.
I would block your "buyer" though. That should put paid to her silliness."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0 -
Mindless Clone I am exactly like you , no way would I use my real details to sell, I sell on a completely different account where it seems most people use their name and the word 'sale' or 'selling' as a family name.
Again just like you half the pages seem to be a free for all with any rules hidden and ignored. Some though are policed a bit usually by stroppy admin who threaten to ban people for all sort of misdemeanour . I was threatened with a ban by one admin for selling dangerous goods that could endanger a child- my crime was attempting to sell a vintage set of fish knives. Yet that same group allows BB guns, baby bling items with loose beads on dummies and bottles and fake 'blue oills'
Edit: my item has been collected now, the other user is blocked and admin have said they will warn her to lay off the silliness or face being banned.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I love facebook selling groups, had some fab bargains
Although you do get messers and people get really annoyed if someone beats them to an item lol
Free to sell - Items "Usually" Get picked up quite quickly- Bonus
Giving me a break from ebay as its driving me crazy at mo, I have had 3 INR Claims in the last month
Log into paypal and its on Hold yet again , why proof of postage is not accepted as what it is "Proof" is beyond me
I call everyone hun or Chick
Funny cause in real life I never speak like that, however after dealing with loads of folk on facebook it seems to be the norm....... 0 -
Im on a few groups, one of them is only for stuff you are willing to post and they have a list of rules that people have read and agree to to use the group, one of which is clearly state price and postage, then you get a few people posting a pic just saying "message me for details", one member got very irrate after politely being asked to add prices.
I ignore the ones that dont display any sort of price, too much effort, plus a lot of people have settings so you cant message them unless you are friends.S.P.C member 1662 - target £3000 -

That question is an easy one, paypal require proof of delivery for an INR claim, proof of posting is obviously not the same.Jen_Jen1985 wrote: »Im on a few groups, one of them is only for stuff you are willing to post and they have a list of rules that people have read and agree to to use the group, one of which is clearly state price and postage, then you get a few people posting a pic just saying "message me for details", one member got very irrate after politely being asked to add prices.

Ah yes, the non reading lot as well. All the groups i am on clearly state that sellers must give price or at least 'offers?' and state location for collection or whether item can be posted. Being the good girl I am I clearly state '£xx, collect from xx (near the xx building) no postage'. so why does every other post on my thread start with 'where are you hunny' or 'how much babe?' Or even, can you post this if I add another 2 quid on the price?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I think that Facebook is taking me over and the next step will be me calling them all hunny or babe......I have just had 2 messages about some new business stock I have listed and I found myself ending my email with kisses, a whole little row of xxxx
arghhhhh save me
EDIT: I must say though, this new stock is a rather popular item but the postage is expensive for the item- but I am selling twice, maybe three times as much on facebook as on ebay - probably because of the postage issue. On ebay I look expensive as I have listed this as £2.20 postage as it is too fat for a large letter, but as it is under 100g many other sellers have it for £1.20 and I assume they think it can get through as a large letter- which it definitely cannotI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Agreed.
Has it ever been different? In all the time I've been on eBay its always been proof of delivery for INR with signature proof required for items over £150.
I think kbh is just a little confused, proof of postage has never been accepted.====0
