had this problem before, very easy to sort out, pop down the local boozer, find a couple of fit young lads, offer them £20.

Just wanted to add to this thread having found it useful when deciding to order new appliances (Washing Machine, Fridge Freezer) for delivery to an upstairs flat (no lift).

Ordered from Appliances Online, there is a page of questions following placing your order about access - stairs, turns in stairs, restricted access e.g. scaffolding?!

I filled in the above page and also phoned them. Last time I bought a new Washing Machine was from Comet about seven years ago. Made sure I mentioned about being an upstairs flat, no lift. They said they would send a two person delivery team, one turned up and he practically dragged the thing upstairs - no wonder it didn't last... I meant the machine...

Anyway, back to today there were two delivery men, they said they knew it was a flat in advance but don't always get told... I relayed my story as above. They looked like this  and then :rotfl:as there are two lots of stairs with a turn in between leading up to my flat.

They had one of those trolleys someone posted upthread and did a fantastic job!! :)

I ordered an American fridge freezer from appliances online and filled out that form.

Delivery men turned up and refused to carry it up any stairs (I live on the third floor!) , and left it out on The street!

I'm second floor, steep narrow stairs.
This year I got my washing machine from Currys, carried it up with no complaints (nor should there have been, considering the delivery charge I'd paid!) Checked in the shop first though.
Also got furniture, Argos and Harveys were cheerful and helpful. The Sainsburys delivery was awful, they hadn't a clue and damaged the furniture. Their customer services were no better.

If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?

Did you get them to take it back?
  • I've had several heavy appliances delivered to second floor flats with no lift. I always tip the delivery guys at least a fiver each, its only fair for their efforts.

I would recommend John Lewis, free delivery and pleasant and respectful when they turn up

Whoever does your delivery have a mug of tea and a pack of biscuits ready. I know people really well;) who do this for a living and food and drink (and a good tip) will see you get a good service.
