Five tiny scratches and the whole car will need a respray at this rate.

So we've got 2 'experts' on this thread, one saying it will cost £50 to have it painted and the other £100 to have it polished out yet neither have seen the damage.

I'll leave it to them as they obviously know what they're talking about and I don't !

It's odd you critisice others advise because they haven't seen the damage. Yet your advise says you're "almost certain the whole door will have to be painted" - so tell us, have you seen the damage?

Try quoting exactly what I said, you know the bit where I said 'need pictures',but of course that wouldn't have fitted in with your agenda.

No one can make an estimate on body repairs, whether it just be a quick polish on 1 panel or a partial or a full respray

If the OP had come back with pictures we (the we being people who do bodywork repairs for a living not someone who can post a link to a youtube video or once had Chipsaway out to blow in a bumper scuff) could have given him/her an idea to the repair procedure.

With some colours that's actually a possibility !!!

I see you haven't replied to my idea of "polishing it out "

That video you posted, well I can still see some scratches so not entirely successful was it.....so in fact that car needed painting !!!

    You said...
    That's poor advice,
it's almost certain the whole door will have to be painted ( need pictures to be sure ) and maybe even the adjoining panels to match the colour.
Best thing to do is take the car to a couple of bodyshops and get some quotes,it will be more that 50 quid !
How can I be certain ? I'm in that business.

So since you also haven't seen pictures and have said yourself they are needed to provide a decent quote, I would be interested to know why you feel others advice is "poor" simply because it isn't in line with your opinions...

Of course it's poor advice when someone says it's going to cost under £50 at a bodyshop when a,they haven't even seen the damage and b,what experience has that person got in the body repair business anyway ?

Best case scenario it will polish out, next best but highly unlikely is a localised repair, maybe you could get away with painting the 1 panel depending on where on the door the damage is or finally, worst case scenario you may have to paint at least 1 adjoining panel to match the colour because that's what 99% of bodyshops do with every job.Colour seldom matches with a panel to panel respray.

I know that because I've been spraying cars for 23 years,so that's thousands of vehicles.
How many have you done ?
You see, unlike you and others on these message boards,I only post replies when I have some experience of the particular situation or think I can be of help.
    That's me done !
  • Sounds like it could be a write off going by some of the replies on here :rotfl:

My wife opened my door into a concete bollard and it caused a big dent and also the paint cracked
I got a mobile dent repairer to come and he fixed it for £40 ;and i polished it and waxed the full car and now it looks like a new door

I thought id have to buy a new door at first cause the dent was massive and not just round

first thing to correct the expert

    It wasn't a video !!

second thing , did you actually look at all the pictures ?? NO I don't think so , because pictures 7 , 8 , 9, 10 don't show any little scratches at all !

and if you care to read many more topics on that site you'll see the same sort of damage can be rectified no matter if it's metallic or solid colours with a correct procedure

NO need to respray half a car sometimes for a few small scratches

How we all wish the OP would post some photos af the actual scratches

but until then I stand by my recommendations !
