Car door scratched

I was in a car park and an old lady parked next to me opened her door and banged it into mine.

She has offered to pay for it to be fixed privately and I have her address/phone number etc.

I'm not sure if I should agree to go through insurance but ignoring that for the moment how much is this likely to cost?

There are about 5 small scratches about 1 inch long in a small block, not deep, no denting - when it rains and the door is wet you can't notice them. I tried to take a photo but didn't get a good one with my phone I'm afraid.

Car is a Toyota Auris Decuma Grey - as they are very small is it likely they can just touch it up or will they want to repaint the whole door?

Under £50 at a good bodyshop. Screw the insurance company, who will pay a rip-off company £500 to respray the whole panel and put insurance costs for everyone up further.

That's poor advice,it's almost certain the whole door will have to be painted ( need pictures to be sure ) and maybe even the adjoining panels to match the colour.
Best thing to do is take the car to a couple of bodyshops and get some quotes,it will be more that 50 quid !
How can I be certain ? I'm in that business.

Sorry that is a load of nonsense , oh , guv we got to respray the complete side of the car for that small scratch , going to cost insurance well over £900 for that repair

    typical dealer answer that

If there's no dent and what sounds like light scratches it would more than likely machine polish out at cost of about £100

Been there done it and polished the scratches away myself

But a picture is needed just to confirm

See if you can Tcut it out yourself first.

I'm getting paranoid about parking next to other poeples drivers doors for that reason.

Having said that, last year at the end of a car boot sale, there was only two cars left in this parking field and this fella backed straight into mine when trying to turn around. lol Now I really did have to have new panels and a respray for that little incident, cost an absolute fortune.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I wouldn't go via insurance for that, it'll cost you more in premium hikes than it'd cost to get the damage fixed.

I'm surprised little old lady didn't deny it til blue in the face, then say "Oh, I don't know" in confused voice and wander off...... :o

Are there 5 scratches because she repeatedly slammed the door into your car, whilst cursing the driver who dared to park straight??

So we've got 2 'experts' on this thread, one saying it will cost £50 to have it painted and the other £100 to have it polished out yet neither have seen the damage.

I'll leave it to them as they obviously know what they're talking about and I don't !

    daz i agree with you
local bodyshop to me will only do a full side respray on metallics if fairly new
days of t cutting back are gone because theres nothing to cut because the bally lacquer is usually too thin
£50 buys nothing in terms of fixing the middle of a door skin once other costs are added
  • this is why I always try and park as far away from other @@@@h@les as possible.

People have no consideration for others property.
