Told car had been serviced but it hasn't

Hi,
Bought a used car from a trader, 2009 Astra done 24000 miles
When looking got told it had a service 3 months ago so we wouldn't normally service it which I accepted.
Paid my deposit and collected and paid rest 1 week later.
The next day I noticed the service light on so decided to check the service history (ok I should have checked it and not taken the salesmans word for it
) and it had its last service 17th August 2011. so basically 1 year ago.
In the service book it states 20,000 miles or 1 year whichever is sooner so it is due.
The salesman wont pay to get the car serviced as we didn't agree on getting it serviced when we sealed the deal, but I keep reminding him that if I had to wait nine months for a service I wouldn't mind, but was told it had been serviced 3 months ago.
Now obviously this is my word against his, but I wouldn't buy a car then have to go and get it serviced straight away.
Any ideas where I stand on getting the car sales place to pay??
Or is it my fault for not checking the service history

Salesmen say anything to get a sale. It is your word against the salesman's.
That aside, the car should be serviced at 20,000 or one year and it was serviced at 2 years (presumably when it had done 20,000)
At 24,000, or 3 years it is unlikely to be a major service, why not write to the managing director and suggest a reduction as a good will gesture and to keep you as a loyal customer?0 -
The stamps say,
Year 1 @ 7500 miles ish @ Aug 2010
Year 2 @ 17000 miles ish @ Aug 2011
1st one is obviously the first free service.
2nd service I had the invoice as well from previous owner.
My big gripe is that I was told it was serviced 3 months ago.
When it wasnt.
Service schedule is every year or every 20,000 miles if sooner.
I know its only done 7,000 miles since last service but I feel I have been fobbed off a bit.0 -

Hi there
I bought a 2010 Audi this month and the salesman said the same thing to me. After we sealed the deal the service light flashed up saying it was due a service in the next 28 days.
I telephoned him to discuss further and informed him that they couldn't expect me to service the vehicle so soon for the warranty to be valid! He thought it was faulty and asked me to bring it in.
I didn't need to remind him of the 30 day or 1,000 miles (no nonsense) return policy. He checked the vehicle and said that Audi would pay for the service and provide me with a car whilst they carried the service out. I was disappointed that this had happened so as a sweetener to me they offered a full tank of petrol! :T
Should think so as well!! :rotfl:
Let me know how you get on....good luck!0 -

Go and see his immediate boss with him present, if you get no joy there then go higher up, teach the lying little toad a lesson and make sure there are plenty of other people about.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
2009 Astra with a service light?
Are you sure you don't just mean the spanner light?0 -

Agreed you have to get this toad tied down had similar with my old man when he went to buy a car. My old man wanted to let it go and not cause a fuss but I insisted the sales"man" was made to stick to his word even though he went throught the my boss wont be happy routine and this wa an Astra and a Vauxhall dealer.0 -
Why would it have been serviced 3 months ago when the 3rd year wasnt up till Aug? & Miles is only 24,000.
A service will only cost the stealer about £20 for Oil & Filter, the rest is mostly profit.0
