Our Wood Pellet Boiler decisions.........

We're pretty sure we are going to go for the MCZ stove with wet option to do the hot water and heating.
We have an accredited fitter not far from here who we visited on Friday, he talked us through the system how the RHI payments will be made - price of pellets - topping up etc, he said the same .... no need for a thermal store so we'll just be moving our existing 250L tank to a new position and will be sharing the hot water with the extension, and the extension just being heated by the stove. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -

yes , i have just been reading your post and are in exactly the same situation- we are looking at about 7 radiators with a red compact 24 boiler- we are looking at installing next year but we jump for one form of heating to the next everyday at the mo- we seemed to have settled on biomass:j at the mo though as it actually came in about the same price as installing both LPG and oil! please keep your posts coming and i will wait to see how you get on especially over this winter!

And we're off!!!
6 bags loaded yesterday and we've got a nice warm house.
It seems that the 70 kilo hopper with the boiler is reallistically 60 kilos, ill be keeping an eye on how much is used, and updating here.0 -
yes please do- id be interested as to how often you need to top it up etc....0

At the moment it looks like its a bag a day. Thats with the heating on once in the morning and once in the evening, and the hot water on once in the morning. At this rate we'd be using roughly 3 tonnes per year, which is perfect for us. Obviously as the winter approaches this will change, but right now everything is good. Im still trying to get to grips with what the best way to use the boiler is. At the minute i have the hot water coming on when the central heating does, so the boiler doesnt have to heat up seperately for the hot water.
We have 2 thermostats in the house, once the boiler is on, and we change the temp on the thermostats, its an almost instant reaction, which is great.0 -
how about the noise?- and do you have a seperate water tank with the boiler or is it all in one? have you had a tonne of pellets delivered and how much storage room do they take up? we are planning to have the same 24 red compact as you in our garage, the other one we have been quoted for is the muse 15 or 22kw but the hopper size is only 40L so im worried id be having to re-fuel regulaly....
how often are you emptying the ash?
sorry for all the questions! just interested!0 -

As the boiler is in the garage we havent got a noise issue, however its virtually silent.
We have had a new water tank fitted in the house as the old one was falling apart.
Our delivery of pellets was on a pallet that sits in the garage next to the boiler. There is 96 bags on the pallet which stands about 5ft high. You should have no problems accommodating it to be honest.
Ill be emptying the ash once a week, i dont expect there will be much.
Hope that helps.0 -
I'm excited. We too are having a wood pellet boiler, so etime this month I hope. Two winters with no heating Have ensured even if it's terrible we are quite likely to love it.0

We have been using a Wood Pellet Boiler (Lincar 740) since Febuary, the original 1967 Oil boiler gave up the ghost on the 23 December, the oil tank was on its last legs, and was we where only able to Half fill it, we where looking into replacing the oil boiler the following summer, but had to bring forward these plans.
We had a 3rd pallet of pellets delivered last month, and it is worth searching around for the best price.
Good Luck on the install0
