Not been on here for a while but wanted to add my thanks to BB for your generously shared ideas and recipes:T:T.
It's OHs birthday tomorrow and I promised to make him a cake - it will just be something simple like a Victoria sponge or I might even do a cheesecake too as I haven't made one for years!!0 -
Some brilliant ideas here guys. My partner and I really need to get a grip on our food spend, using some of the tips we should be able to save a small fortune :beer:0

Lunch yesterday was jacket spud, beans and cheese for four people. Pack of four large jacket spuds 10p (reduced price), tin of Aldi baked beans 24p and 100g of Aldi mature cheddar cheese (grated) 40p. So worked out to be 18.5p per person :j0

in the coop today in the freezer section....for a fiver you get 4 birds eye crispy chicken things...never had them so dont know how nice they are...a biggish bag or chips...bag of peas....bag of sweetcorn and a tub of kellys icecream....not bad for a fiver i thought
possible options with it
1) cut up chicken and have in tortillas not sure if there if enough for 2 meals for 4 but probable if there is 2 of you
2) serve chicken with a salad
3) buy some eggs and have egg and chips using the chips...we dont eat much chips per meal so i think the bag would do us for 3 meals but might not stretch that far if you eat more
4) use left over peas with other meals or make them into a soup
5) use sweetcorn in other meals use in pasta dish or a quiche
6) icecream well eat it...think it would do us at least twice...could make in to a sundae with fruit in a nice dish
i will post if it is nice

I bulk everything out with vegetables or lentils. Food can be stretched and many of us have had to do it at some time or another.
I have even at times had to resort to a no meat roast, basically just roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings, vegetables and gravy and they don't even notice that there is no meat.
Another one that I do is roast dinner pie using the left overs from Sunday dinner put into a pie crust
My family never says that they are still hungry after a meal
If a meal seems a bit light then I make a dessert such as pancakes, apple fritters apple pudding rice pudding or crumble. Or we might have a supper of cheese and crackers, a toasted sandwich or pikelets and jam.
You come over as the sort of person who has never had to struggle.
I think your last line says it all - like A Girl Called Jack - some people only have up to £20 a week to feed a family, and they HAVE to make it work - Love this thread x0 -
We had cauliflower cheese tonight with bacon and it was lush. To my surprise DH asked for it, good job caulis are in the super six, I only have a couple left in the garden and they are a bit too small to use yet, so I bought a couple today.
Cauli 2 39p each milk 25p, flour 5p, butter 8p, grated cheese 40p and bacon bits from the butcher 75p
Total cost for five of us (I left the bacon out when I made DD a small one of her own because she is a veggie)
Total cost £2.31 or 46p a portionBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I am trying to restrain myself from becoming too excited because it is still only a rumour, but....there could be an @ldi opening about 3 miles from us :j
Our closest at the moment is around a 40min drive each way, in any direction--some due to actual distance & others awful traffic bottlenecks--so I can't wait to wander their waresFull time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.
