Can being off "sick with stress" affect your upcoming redundancy payout?

Was a pretty bad day at work today, and I think when my redundancy letter finally comes, I won't be able to hack it, and combined with my debts, think I will be off work with stress, but will go and see a Doctor.
If you are in the redundancy period, does being off "sick" affect anything please?

Why are you worrying about what 'might' happen.
Can't see why you 'think' you might be stressed'
Just see what happens and deal with it 'if and when'
Sorry, but my phylosophy in life is face it head on and up and at 'emmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Your reference for your next employer? "Rochdale_Guy was advised he was to be made redundant and then went off sick for a month". Doesn't look good!0 -
Oh, why do I bother honestly.....
Sorry if struggling with so many debts and losing my job isn't in your books as "stress".....0 -

You would be better focusing on how to manage your debts and how you can best present yourself to new employers. Once you have stress on your record you are affected by the mental health stigma and this can affect every part of your life - employment, insurance etc. If you can possibly work through this, you will be far better off doing so.0 -

Thanks, but why do so many people keep telling me to go to the docs then as I can't seem to cope with my debts and situation?.0 -

In your first post you didnt say anything about debts. We can only go on the details you give from your first post.
I dont have a problem with stress, I dont experience it, because I always believe that its the way you deal with it that is important, if you are going to lie down and say oooh Woe is me,
then youre going to make yourself miserable and everyone around you.
Up and at 'em, is my way of dealing with it, sort your debts out, start now before you become redundant, look for other jobs, fill your time in, even reading a book is helpful. Be proactive.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

And if anyone asked me why I was off with stress, I'd be honest and tell them I was made redundant after 10 loyal years with the local Council..0

Surely your debts are not your employers fault.0

Because it is the easy answer - going on the sick and taking some pills. The pills won't make the problem go away, nor will being on the sick.I dont have a problem with stress, I dont experience it, because I always believe that its the way you deal with it that is important, if you are going to lie down and say oooh Woe is me,

This is excellent advice. Easier said than done at times, but it will be far more productive than going on the sick.0
