I'm a little confused, sorry. It might just be me, baby brain!

Have you paid the balance of your wedding to the hotel?

Do you have an itemised contract with the hotel that lists what's included in your package?

If you have paid a set amount and the contract states what should be included in the price you've paid, you can expect the hotel to provide those services. Flowers, dj, etc.
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire

Yes iv'e paid the balance. I don't have an itemised contract or anything from the hotel. We went and had a meeting 13 days before the wedding and found out the manager had done nothing beyond take my money!! he hadn't even booked the ceermoney to happen there or sorted the food and drinks etc. I had been chasing them for approx 2 months and getting know where and only found out what haddn't been done after he left.

If you've paid the hotel for a package that includes a DJ then the manager/wedding organiser should be the one chasing the DJ. But any decent DJ should be happy for the client to contact them so they can know of any specific requests the clients may have, sometimes a couple's first dance isn't the average, they may have more than one first dance, they may want certain novelty songs, they may want stuff for kids. My DH is a DJ and he always contacts customers in advance, and for a wedding in particular would normally try to meet them to discuss details.
So yes a decent DJ can add but it seems you're at the mercy of the hotel and unless you can sort out moneyto make it worth cancelling then you might as well go ahead. Even if you did find somebody who could step in, not all venues who have a resident DJ will allow you to bring another in, sometimes due to insurance conditions etc.
Good luck and hope it all works OK for you

To be honest, I'm struggling to think of a wedding I've been to where a DJ's actually added anything to proceedings.

In most cases, the "DJ" seems to be a teenage kid that turns up with a lap top and a light on a stick, presses play, then sits there looking miserable for the evening...Not so great.

We had a band and did an iPod mix inbetween/after and hired some lights and speakers separately (around £150 for the weekend). Getting the playlists sorted out actually took *days*, between making lists, ripping CDs and downloading extra albums, then arranging all of the music in order and trimming for dead time, but the end result was excellent.

Glad to hear the effort was worth it. I hope the DJ for our wedding is good.

Don't focus on the DJ just think about getting married and the living happily ever after! Hope you enjoy your day, it will blur by and afterwards you'll probably forget all your musical worries :)
