What would be reasonable?

I went to get my hair cut on Friday (same haridresser I have had for approx 18 months) and I am not happy with the result.
For the past year or so I had been attempting to grow out a short style but then decided enough was enough and so decided to go short again, but short and feminine, not short and butch like:)
The time before she cut it from it's longer length into a really nice cut (gave her a picture of style I wanted) and I can honestly say it was the best cut I have ever had. Five weeks later(Friday) went in to get it trimmed(took same picture in) and she has made a hash of it. Short and feminine has turned into even shorter and butch and I actually have a bald spot and bad cut marks in the hair behind the ear where it goes down to nape of neck.

I didn't pick up on it at the time because it always takes a day or two for cut hair to settle but I really hate it.
I am going to go in tomorrow to register my complaint and show them what is wrong but at the end of the day what can I reasonably expect them to do? They can't stick my hair back on(it is probably 3/4 cms shorter than the last cut :( and will take an age to get to that length again) and one side is bald with a badly cut patch immediately above it. if I ask them to try and blend it in, my too short hair will be even shorter and still will not be the same as the other side. What is 'reasonable' in these circumstances?

I've got the same problem...I had mine done two weeks ago now. It was a trim of my mid-back length hair...and they cut it up to my shoulders. Even the fringe is wrong - and we spent a while looking at the picture together. At the time, they could see I was about to cry but I didn't say anything because I was embarrassed and I hoped it'd grow on me.

I emailed and phoned asking to speak to someone about it last week, but no response, so I'm now writing a letter. No idea what I can ask for - like you said, it's not possible to stick the hair back on, and quotes I've had for extensions to put it back to how it was are around £800. The patchy parts and straggly longer-than-the-rest pieces are difficult to solve too - I don't want them going near my head again, that's for sure.

I sympathise...I really don't know what to suggest.

No idea what to suggest but I really feel for you I had someone come and cut my hair in my house and it was bloody awful I was about to go on holiday as well. I spent my whole holiday practically in tears and not going out of the apartment.

I was to embarressed to say anything but never booked her again!

I hope it grows fast for you.

I think the most you could get is your money back but even then after a fight, depending on the hairdresser.

You should get a refund and maybe a free cut when your hair has grown out enough. Be sure to say you are a regular/ loyal customer.

You should have said something at the time. It must have looked too short when you were in there, it wouldn't have 'settled'into somethin g longer!

I suppose it depends how it was done...he cut my hair quickly, all off in one cut. If I'd realised what he was about to do, I'd have said something. He then insisted on washing my hair again, and then sat me at a booth with no mirror, and refused to show me the back of my hair. I asked for the mirror to see myself, but he stood in the way so I could see him and not the back of my hair.

He knew it was too short - so did reception, who tried to tell me that my hair looked gorgeous short and they were jealous. Honestly, it was such a shock I was afraid I'd burst out crying if I spoke. My hair was a big confidence booster for me, and it's gone.

I'm going to send a letter recorded delivery anyway, explaining what happened. I think they could at least apologise for ignoring what I wanted completely, and give me the cost back. It was a few pounds short of triple figures, so it's a substantial amount to pay them for ruining my hair.

(Before anyone criticises the cost - I have my hair cut once a year, due to terrible cuts repeatedly as a child, and it is very blonde and long. I go to the same place, who have always been fantastic, and have an expensive but usually very worth it cut.)

It never looks 'right' (my definition of right) when they style it, as long as the cut is ok then I will style it how I like it when I get home. A hairdresser friend used to cut it years back and she always left the drying/styling to me as I did it better! When I did wash/style it, it was apparent that it was completely different to how it was cut last time(despite same picture being taken in) it was only when I got a mirror out to take a look at all angles that I saw the bald spot!
The fact remains that this time it was a real bodge job!

I've had some bad cuts but it does grow. Mine grows half an inch a month, so quite quickly.

I've found that people don't notice it as much as you think they do.

I reckon a refund is in order if you're that unhappy and you don't want them to try to put it right.

Elle7-that is awful for you, that was quite a drastic cut. If it is not right then you walk around feeling awful until it gets back to 'normal' again. I hope you get a satisfactory response from them eventually.
Erinnire-It always happens when you have an 'occasion' planned, be it holiday, xmas, work's meal, wedding, etc, why is that? It certainly ruins the event.
I have been in such a foul mood all day because of it :(
I will go in tomorrow and see what their response is (it was Salon owner's daughter that actually did the cut) but I guess that I will be looking for another hairdresser some time in the distant future when it has grown again!
