It is all sorted now. Next step is politely asking barclays to open an account for me and waiting for the OR to get in touch. The court procedure couldn't have been easier.

I agree. Welcome to your new 'debt-free' life. :j

Well, it's done! I was declared bankrupt this afternoon, and I didn't even have to see the judge! I handed in my forms and cash, they typed it up, put it in front of the judge, who read and signed it, then they emailed it to the OR, who I will talk to on the phone tomorrow!

It was so straightforward it almost feels like an anticlimax!

I'm really amazed and relieved at how nice and non-judgemental the court staff were. The lady who dealt with me laughed because I looked so astonished when she said I could go. She said "That's it, you're done! The OR will be in touch today or tomorrow."

It kind of feels like it should be more painful - but then the last six months have been painful enough!

Thanks to everyone for your good wishes. It's really good to know there are people out there who really KNOW what you're going through.

Seahorsejockey - best wishes for tomorrow! You'll feel SO much better when it's done!

They are lovely aren't they? We were shocked at how pleasant and nice and helpful they were actually. They know that people don't go bankrupt because they WANT to; they simply have no choice. I hope you find peace and happiness in your life now. :)

What a great thread, where people can talk about their bankruptcy and share their stories of hardship and how it was for them. Thank you for starting this. :j

We are 2 years from going bankrupt (in November,) and I can honestly say it was the best choice we ever made. We got our private let home a month before we went bankrupt and told the property agent that we were planning the bankruptcy and they were OK with it. The only thing that worries me is that we will have to stay with them even when we choose to move house, because any other landlord or property agent will do a credit check. Also we have very basic bank account and cannot get the Christmas catalogue I would like.

However, all this does not matter much as we now have no debt, after many years of suffering because of illness and job loss. It was very hard for the first year, but since the start of this year (3 months after discharge,) my hubby has got more hours at work and we are now much better off. And MUCH happier. :)

Thanks Lou and your post really does show there is light at the end of the BR tunnel

That's OK 'if' and thank you too! It's nice to be able to post in a thread where people have been through the same as us and I can post without judgement (hopefully) :)

  • Hi guys, I have today opened my basic cash card account with barclays in-branch. It was quick and easy and the staff were very helpful. They didn't seem to care that I had debt with barclaycard. They did do a credit check but as my BR was only yesterday I passed that with flying colours. Just got to wait for Mr/Mrs OR to contact me now.
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.

:staradmin Hi Everyone and Welcome to the September's 2012 Bankruptcy Club :staradmin

This club is for everyone who has gone or going through the process of Bankruptcy during September 2012. So please feel free to join and post.

Pop your name on here, the date that you went Bankrupt and the stage that you are at now in your Bankruptcy. And then just keep everyone in the club updated throughout the next year about your BR journey. That way we can all stick together and compare notes and we will be there to support each other throughout the different stages in our Bankruptcy.
Remember this is your board so keep posting :hello:

Obviously anyone can come on here and post anything that will help us all and you are all welcome. Any important questions that need answering please still post them on the main board, as you will receive more advice and help.
Hopefully it will be an extra place for friendship and support as we compare notes and discuss what is happening with our Bankruptcies.

~ Please do not include too much information as the IS (Insolvency Service) are known to frequent this forum and they may identify individual cases, so username and date only, thank you ~
