Yes I work in a laboratory, I do lots of analysing and testing, but now I have to go and work on the shop floor (Factory work), very mundane. :(

Are the hours being offered the same as the current hours, not just number but also pattern.

Does the factory normaly do shifts that you currently don't do. they may same housrs now but are they likely to change them to shifts.

Is the pay in the factory normaly the same or is your wage just protected if protected how long and how are they planning to normalize in the future.

Canges in routine can effect the health quite quickly expecialy doing something repetative that is new to the body no need to lie.

and google suitable alternative employment for more links.

Key questions - is it a suitable alternative? (see interpretations of what that means) and would it be reasonable for you to refuse it? The latter depends on personal circumstances (including childcare, schooling, dependant relatives, health, travel etc)

PS are you in a Union?

yes, shift pattern the same, I'm now having to attend a medical to assess if I'm capable of carrying out the job. yes in a union, but they are all for the company, they've advised I take the alternative role.

Does the old job involve a lot of sitting and the new job a lot of standing?

Any heavier lifting or other manual tasks

These could cause issues with feet legs and back.

The older you are the harder it is to adapt to these sort of changes.

What are the key medical things they are going to be looking for?
  • I have now attended a medical, and after listingall of my ailments and failing the eye and ear test (on purpose!!!!!!!) I was told that I am fit to carry out the role offered! I am now on the sick with stress caused by this and I'm feeling VERY low and desperate. I don't know where to turn and the thought of me trying out the new role is stressing me out more!
  • There's no valid list of reasons why a job is/is not SAE. If you can come up with a good reason, who's to say that a tribunal will not accept it.

How about the skills that you've developed or need for your current job? Would they be lost in the new job?

Can you explain a bit more why you don't like the job on offer?
I am an employment solicitor. However, my views should not be taken to be legal advice. It's difficult to give correct opinion based on the information given by posters.
  • The new role is mundane, boring and tedious as all factory work is!
I have accquired various skills throughout the years which none will be utilised in the new role.
I have various ailments which my present job does not interfere with, but the new role would most certainly interfere with my health (although the employee health department are not accepting this!)
I have tried EVERY possibility to refuse the new role, but now I've been told if I don't accept it, I will have to resign!!!!

I think you need to speak to someone (ACAS?) about the health issues as it looks like they haven't acted within the law if the new job would affect your health.
  • I have just been informed that my job has now been replaced by an unexperienced member of staff on a 12 month secondment, is this legal?
