Why don't you download and utilise the Trial Version and let us know.

Thanks for pointing out the Amazon alternative.

    Any suggestions??

I think that if you want to be sure that the money goes to the developers, perhaps buy direct....via BitsDuJour.. Even though it costs a £1 more.

You can elect to have the Protection module not to start with Windows if you so wish.

I have XP with 1GB Ram and have no issues whilst it is running.

The 2 processes seen in TM with the realtime module enabled are mbamgui.exe and mbamservice.exe (and mbam.exe of course when the application is loaded/scanning)

The service mbamservice.exe would still be running with realtime protection turned off. You can't disable this service if you want the auto updates feature.

For me, the whole point of the pro version over the free version though is protection through prevention.

Scanning/removing after an infection isn't protection.

That's good enough for me. I've got 2GB so I will give it a whirl.

I am already running Malwarebytes free and as I said previously I'm only really interested in the auto-update feature, which at full price perhaps makes it a tad expensive.

Having said that the developers have done such a good job with this programme that I feel inclined to support them anyway - and it is a lifetime license.

What are the specifications of your computer ? If RAM is so critical then you need to upgrade.

These days you can buy 4GB of DDR3 for £15 and DDR2 will be about the same price.
4GB of laptop RAM is between £12 and £18

    Thanks Waddler; perfectly clear now.

I take your point regarding protection/prevention and I entirely agree.

I have plenty of protection and use Malwarebytes Free mainly for manually checking everything I recover from Sandboxie and for weekly scanning.

The reason I am looking at the Pro version is for the auto-update facility but if I can utilise its real-time protection without any drag on my system or conflict with any other security programmes I am running then that's a bonus as far as I am concerned.

I too use it on an XP system with 1GB RAM and see little by way of performance issues.

It may not be necessary but I configure it and my antivirus (MSE) to ignore each others processes/services/drivers etc - belt & braces if you like.

Oddly, it's not difficult to produce registration details for the program, so I would suggest to purchase through official channels.

I could produce and sell them all day if I was so inclined. No, it isn't a sales pitch, so don't ask.

My current a/v is Panda Cloud 2.0 which isn't configurable but seems to play nicely with most things so hopefully I won't have any problems.
