My understanding is similar to alm721. I would really recommend this book - it explains charting for ovulation etc but is written in plain English and is v easy to read. It explains absolutely everything from your first period to menopause - getting pregnant to contraception. I think it should be required reading in school! I am almost ashamed to say I learned quite a bit when I first read it (as I was in my late 30's!).

There are no guarantees. I know someone who has girls coming out of her ears, but really only wants a boy...but can't get one. Its a game of chance and there are no guarantees. Your friend can try all the above techniques, but still may end up having a boy.

I think, girl sperms are supposed to be more likely to survive longer/swim furthur then male sperm so you are slightly more likely to get a girl if you have sex a couple of days before ovulation as male sperms die sooner so more likely to be more girl sperms left to fertilise the egg when its released. Conversley male sperms generally swim faster then girl sperms (I think due to slight size difference) so if you have sex as you ovulate there is more chance of a male sperm getting there first as they are a bit quicker.
Obviously this relies on knowing exactly when you ovulate so plotting bbt for a few months before trying to get pregnant would not be a bad idea.
    No guarantees though!
This is how I got a boy then a girl. I conceived the boy the day I saw the mucus and the girl a few days before I saw the mucus. Complete co-incidence in my case cos with boy hubby was meant to be away that night from work but ahem dropped in en-route,;) and with girl we had had our 1st attempt at trying for our next child but then got unexpected house-guests for a few days and gave up our room, by time they'd gone I was pregnant from the first attempt. All I would say is that even though this un-intentionally worked for me, nothing is 100% and I wouldn't go in for another child unless I was going to be happy regardless of what sex the child is. Have fun trying but don't be disappointed if it doesn't work out.
  • Go to https://www.ukparents.net and read the gender selection forum, they are a few people obsessed with getting a certain sex, Im sure they will be able to help.

There is also a few links etc on that forum with theories too.
  • also the thing about girl sperm living longer is true. So i would suggest putting a pillow under her bottom after sex and staying like that for a while. no idea if this would work but i have 1 daughter and 2 sons and with daughter (conceived in the 'honeymoon' period of the relationship) we tended to cuddle up for hours afterwards and with boys (conceived after honeymoon period of the relationship) i tended to get up alot quicker if you see what i mean.

This is what I heard. I'll let you know in a few weeks if it worked.

Do a google search for chinese gender predictor. It is said to be based on the lunar alignments. I know it is very far fetched but for all my friends, it has come out true. There is quite a bit about it online. Might be worth looking at for a giggle becuase there is no real way to plan which you will have!

    50/50 chance either way.

    Its that simple.

Only going by my success 10 years ago:

Book into a rubbish B&B in Blackpool out of season and listen to a couple of very argumentative and then loving same sex ladies in the room above you to kick your own love life into action!!!

To drown out the noise we decided to "make our own party". The result = A now 9 year old gal who thinks she's 16 and has the attitude of a 16 year old also!

    LOL

Whilst my suggestion might not be the most founded as true it was the best fun I can assure you! lOL :rotfl:
