Your opinions on a very minor assault

I'm just after what people would do in my situation, I run a nice pub, hardly ever get any trouble.
Earlier this evening I had a slight altercation with a long standing regular customer, to cut a long story short on the way out he took a swing at me,I just managed to move at the last second, so all that happened was he bruised my cheek and sent my glasses flying twelve feet away , if he had caught me full on it would have hurt,
There's at least ten people that witnessed it and its on cameras.
Is it worth bothering the police over such a minor matter.

  • Yes. Do you want him to think he can get away with such behaviour?
  • firstly theres nothing "minor" about any assault,

Have you barred him if not, do it.
Tell the police, they'll probably do nothing, or make him write a letter of apology.

I was attacked in a city about ten years ago. I had massive facial bruising. It went to Magistrate's twice and Crown Court once. His friends and family were near were I sat, prior to going to court. I won, courtesy of day-by-day photographs. He was fined £200 and that was all. Also, I am female, and I was getting the night-bus home. So, I , personally, would not bother - you will not get any compensation. The law proects the rich not the poor.

Just bar him and keep a copy of the footage somewhere safe. Are your glasses damaged?

What was the reason? I think it depends if he has shown sign of temper before or maybe without meaning to you said something very offensive to him?

I would certainly bar him. If theres CCTV police could probably charge him but that would be up to you.

Meant to add the lience board concider incidents and charges when issuing your licence. One i doubt would matter but make sure he stays away to prevent further.

I think it's worth reporting it to the police to get it lodged as an incident.
Make sure you get an incident number, even if they don't escalate it to a crime, in which case you will get a crime number.
This is because they don't like officially logging incidents, as it shows up in their statistics, and will fob you off if they can.

The reality is that the police will probably not get that much done, but at least you get it officially recorded, so as to create a paper trail if this moron doesn't just go away.

I would bar him, as allowing him to continue as normal after such behaviour only reinforces the fact that it is acceptable.

If he swung at you with that much force, his intention was not for a minor injury at all - you're just lucky to have quick reflexes. Bear that in mind when considering it only a "minor assault"
