Errrrm, no, I didn't, I just put French studies 100%!!!! Really hope it doesn't beggar me up, but I can't remember what marks I would have got or what courses I did. I vaguely remember a couple of them and the topic of my dissertation, but no idea what the weighting was, I don't remember ever being told even whilst I was at uni!
Probably sound really stupid.......but 18 years ago I was just there for a bit of a laugh and to learn more about French literature, didn't really care about the future!
My personal statement was stream of consciousness stuff with a bit of structure0 -
Same, I don't think I really knew which bits were worth what at the time either. But I'd like to include a few bits as I did a bit of Portuguese and Japanese on top of the French and Spanish - I think they were worth like 10% each ... might just put that ??
Been having a browse on the TES forums and people are talking about having interviews already. I was under the impression that the closing date is 6th Dec and all apps are sent to unis after that date, not that people who had already submitted applications would be getting interviews before the closing date...? Confused, and the more I read, the more confused I get!!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
When I went to my first choice uni open day (well, open 50 minutes
the lecturer gave us a few of the dates and I think they had interview days from November onwards...........I did plan on getting my application in on the first day or first week, but best laid plans and all that.
Apparently they have to look at all applications submitted by 6th December, so we won't have missed the boat.0 -
Yeah, 6th December was the date I saw. I'm aiming to have mine in by the end of November, couldn't really have had it done any earlier as I don't have the classroom experience yet (couple more days this week
)
Augh, the ugly side of ebay rears its head again this morningI listed a pair of shoes as new without box because they have been worn literally once out of the house, for about 100 steps, before I realised they were way too small (I kept them for ages hoping to break them in but never did). The soles are unscuffed and I provided a photo of them.
Got a message from some sniffy woman saying she'd bid on them because they were 'new' then read the description to find they'd been worn once, could I confirm because, "if they've been worn I don't want them" - that irked me straight away as she's implying I have mingy feet, but she could have been a bit more polite, "So sorry I didn't read the description properly, would it be possible to cancel my bid, apologies for the inconvenience...". So I've done a public reply that can be seen on the item description saying about how they've been worn max 10 mins, I don't consider them 'worn' but in the interests of honesty did mention it in the description and included a picture. with the implication that you should have read it properly before bidding (auction wasn't ending for another 24 hours so not as though she didn't have time) and if you don't want them you can either retract your bid or hope someone bids more. Bliddy people.
In other news, I think I'm going to need an ark if I want to leave the house today - back and front gardens are flooded and it's still raining, yay.Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
That's why I don't like ebay selling either....Glad the conference wasn't too bad and it's exciting that you're so close to actually applying for the course!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170

Phew - I always forget how admin-heavy ebay is! I've got my spreadsheet updated and everything packed up as far as I can, ran out of envelopes so will raid the cupboard at work tomorrow (assuming I can get into work - more heavy rain forecast and the road's already been closed all afternoon).
I've sold £213 worth of stuff, but still waiting on £82. A few things didn't sell and I've relisted them. It's funny the things you think are really nice and imagine there'll be a bidding war on either don't sell or get one measly bid; the things you almost just put in the charity shop end up going for way over what they're worth. Does that say something about my tastes that no-one likes what I like?!Luckily sniffy shoe woman was outbid so I don't have to deal with her.

Well done on the ebaying! :T I sold 4 Barbies and a bridesmaid dress just before going away and was worrying the whole time that I'd get hassle as all the boxes had small creases and marks on them and the dress had a little watermark (spilt wine
) on the front but I was optimistically honest (ie 'very small mark, barely noticable'
) and luckily got nothing but good reviews, phew! Glad sniffy shoe woman was outbid, must be awful having to deal with folk like her. Does she really think that every pair of shoes she buys in a shop have never had a foot in them? If she's that bothered about buying already-tried-on shoes she shouldn't be buying from what is essentially an online second-hand shop!
Hope you've not been washed away this morning, things are very damp here! Someone from my brother's town put a photo on FB of his friend kayaking on the road as the water was so deep! :eek:
Can't really help with any of the application stuff (thank goodness you've got Kitty for that!) but I think the 'I never wanted to teach...' line is a good way to start your application, will probably come a a breath of fresh air to the person having to read them all! You'll write a fantastic personal statement, I'm sure!

Hey, that's pretty good, well done indeed :T It's a shame you have to deal with a few idiots, but worth it in the end hopefully. Will you be replenishing your savings or treating yourself?
Which reminds me, apparently I've totally got the wrong end of the stick about having a 'rainy day fund' - I've been busy squirrelling teeny bits of money aside in the hope that one day (much like today) when the weather is a bit depressing we can treat ourselves to something niceBut OH says it's for an emergency! If I'd have known that I'd have squirrelled it into my purse :rotfl:
Did you manage to get in to work ok? Glad your meeting last week didn't go too badly and you can enjoy the thought that you won't be there for too much longer.
Regarding the application, I agree with Birdie, you'll write a brilliant personal statement. It's a tad risky starting with a negative, but it could definitely pay off, especially if you counter it straightaway with a convincing argument. You could always soften it a little by saying something like "I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to realise that I'd make an excellent teacher" (but less cheesy, obviously...)LBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380 -
Hope you're having a great time in school today (and tomorrow?)
Guess what, I did my literacy and numeracy tests yesterday and PASSED! Such a huge relief, especially as I failed the sample numeracy tests by one mark each time when practicing the night before!!!0 -
