at the bottom of the crucial scan it recomends what you should buy, mine suggests
DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 128Meg x 64
so I'd search ebay for ddr2 pc2-5300
try that, if you're not sure buy from crucialCats have 9 lives, we only get 1 so live a little! :rotfl:0 -
Please ignore last post done a search on full details : 1GB, 184-pin DIMM, DDR PC3200 which came up with 3 matches.
Thanks to everyone who helped - will post indivdual thank you's.
Just hope it fixes the problem. :TCats have 9 lives, we only get 1 so live a little! :rotfl:0 -
erm, i dunno if im missing teh point but if your running low on virtual memory.... u dont need to buy new ram, teh virtual memory runs from your hard drive.
To change, right click my computer and go to propities, then click teh advianced tab, go to performance settings, and then click teh advanced tab, then it should say something aabout virtual memory, then just increase the amount of virtual memory.
I would also reccommend reformatting teh pc back to manafacture settings0 -
Virtual memory is memory windows uses on the hard drive. It defaults to windows settings. Normally windows runs it okish. If you are getting problems and you have not changed the way the pc is used much then either you have run out of hard drive space or there are processes normally malware/spyware, or just stuff you dont need clogging up the pc. Getting ram is not the answer, although it helps.. If you havn't done a full virus scan I would also do that. Press F8 just before windows boots and select 'safe mode' When it comes up run a full virus scan with an updated scanner.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0

The OP has said they only have 256Meg of Ram, on XP that isn't enough for smooth running of the OS.
More ram, less need for VM.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

I used to frequently come up against VM problems with 384 MiB RAM. That disappeared and I've never had a single VM problem since increasing the RAM. As albert says, 256 isn't enough whether the OP has lots of HDD space or not."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
