sorry I have to say it, a bad knee doesn't stop him from putting an 18 month old to bed?

I am slightly confused as to your OH's position. He's been out of work for two years, but is fit enough to return to work (does he actually then have a job?), but is going to an employment tribunal? And if he is fit enough to return to work, regardless of whether he has a job, why can he not carry an 18 month old child up to bed - they aren't very heavy at 18 months? It's kind of hard to see what is going on here in terms of whether he is fit or not. Or whether he has a job or not.

And I suppose hindsight is a wonderful thing but I think that quitting your job just because an 18 month old is sleeping on the sofa until you get home at 10pm wasn't a great idea. It may not have been ideal, but it also wasn't doing him/her any harm, whereas not having an money coming into the house is a lot less than ideal. Is there any chance of getting your job back?

we recieve cb,ctc, ctb and lha but at the minute we dont see any disposable income for little things like a new kettle if that breaks and cannot afford to do a weekly shop without it being bare minimums,.

Isn't that what living on benefits is supposed to be like?

Yes - but stairs may be a bit much even with help. Depends on the child. And the house. My house, even I have problems getting up stairs at times :) Old and Victorian - the steps are huge!

Why don't you put an SOA on here, then much cleverer people than me can see if you can make any cutbacks.

So your partner has to sleep downstairs, too?

You can identify all your benefit entitlements on the Turn2us online benefit calculator or visit CAB.

See the Debt free wanabee forum on this website and Direct Gov website for its debt management information. CAB will also help with debts.

Download the MSE budget planner - that way you can get a full grip on your income, expenditure and debts.

Work through the site and find out how to slash expenditure and up your income - the MSE website has loads of tips on how to be ultra frugal - cheaper telecoms, energy tariffs, cheap recipes (how to feed a family of 4 for £100 per month) and so on.

The Direct gov website will have info on the type of budgeting loans that you can get from the DWP.

For furniture/electricals, look at replacing items on sites like gumtree freebies, freeshare, freecycle and so on - people give their belongings away for free.

My gran has severe Mobility problem and Always managed to put my child to bed. She went up on her backside step by step and bum shuffled where needed.

Can you out what benefits you get? I can't see how you only get £427 a month - when you get cb/ctc/ct/hb etc

    you should be receiving (approx)
£111 per week joint JSA/ESA claim
    £62 per week CTC
    £20 per week child benefit

so approx £835 per month before counting housing and council tax benefit - does this cover your full rent or are you having to top it up from your other benefits?
Have you spoken to your creditors re reducing payments?

as you have been sanctioned due to leaving your job you will receive a reduced payment there....could your OH claim ESA? How long have you been sanctioned for? did you build up any savings before you left your job?

OH half is fit to return to work next week, just in time to claim unfair dismissal after not having been to work for two years. Or that's how is seems to be explained by the OP.
