Hi all,

Alas it's not the 'dream' house, but it's a lovely house in the 'dream village'.

A few things have changed and become clearer to us (mainly me) over the last month (altho I've been thinking about it for quite some time). One of which is that i really would like to go to uni and get a degree in psychology and work in that there sector. It's always something that has really interested me, unklike service delivery management within IT, which i kind of fell into :o
The other (second) reason for the lack of dream house, is that the thought of continuing to do the role I'm in for another 35 years until retirement, is enough to make me want jump off a cliff quite frankly - so rather than moaning i decided i needed an avenue out, at the appropriate time.

So with that in mind and after much discussion it seemed a sensible option to amend the budget. We were previously looking around the 1/2 mil mark and scaled this down to 300-350k.
This essentially means DH can pay mortgage/bills and we can live reasonably comfortably if i decide to go to Uni and work part time (or indeed not work at all).

The plan currently is to continue working for as long as possible, throwing as as much money into the mortgage as possible (with the view to being mortgage free in <6 years). At that point i will then go and do what my heart desires re career change (psychology etc) - this is of course assuming all goes to plan, which erm, *cough* it hasn't quite done so over ht last few years :o

The house buying process has been incredibly stressful. I know they all are, but we are buying a repossession (which had an offer already accepted on it) however essentially we offered more money for it, it was agreed but we had to complete in or less than <12 working days
We are now on working day number 8 and exchanging and will be complete by 10 working days (Wednesday).
Don't ask how i managed to wangle this, it's such a long story, but essentially huge amounts of persistent chasing, being incredibly nice to all parties involved to get what i wanted and a few underhand naughties as well:rotfl:

I'm currently just waiting for confirmation we have exchanged contracts :j

Hope you are both well - i will have a lot of diary catching up to do in about 6 weeks (when we are moved in and settled - i hope!)

This is all very exciting.

Just read your diary and will be subscribing.

Work wise you are in similar predicament to me although I would describe myself as having a love/hate relationship with my job. There are things are detest about work and things I also thoroughly enjoy. I'm doing it for the money though as this is helping us smash our remaining mortgage. It can be a bit of a roller coaster emotionally for both me and DH.

I am older than you (38), married with 2 kids and we are two years away from being mortgage free. This is the point where we will reassess work and our lifestyle.

We were mortgage free before but not in our dream home and I will say that this really does change your perspective. Work just isn't as important when you have the financial freedom to walk away and do something different. So if you can stick at your current job and pay down your smaller mortgage fast that would be great.

Good luck and hope you complete on your house soon.

:hello: Muser/Happier Me!

A quick toe in the water on the old diary front - yes we completed :jand we did it in 9 1/2 working days :rotfl:
We've currently had the house a month (yesterday) but not moved in yet. We are in the throes of decorating and such like - but the official move in date is next Thursday (17th) :T I cannot wait :D

Will be back on full form after that point re MSE :money: ways and the diary (we have been hemorrhaging money the last 4 weeks - albeit to a prepared budget - still feels we have spent ALOT though )
I need to update signature and catch up on lotsss of diaries next week as well- looking forward to it, more so for the fact it means we will have finished/moved in and i can relax a little, as if i see another tin of gloss paint after this week i may scream :p

Hope all is well in MSE world - can't wait to officially (and properly) be part of the MFW board!! :o :T :j:beer:

A big squishy hug and hurrah from me! What an amazing achievement to get all that sorted in such a short time ... hats off to you!

All that being nice and underhand naughties where it counted ... sounds like you'll be an asset to the psychology sector!

Many congratulations and happy moving in day ... I'll be thinking of you as I have to take a day off to visit sister-in-law (who I love to bits) and brother-in-law who's hell on wheels, so the day will stay in my mind! Enjoy!

PS: I hope the girls enjoy their new garden too!

:hello:I think I'm ready to venture back in to land of the MSE :money::j

Long absence due to house and work in a nutshell. The house is now fully finished :T (decorated and all those niggly things (x loads) that should take 5 minutes but really take 2 hours, are completed), we are moved in (just over 3 weeks ago) and the last of the furniture arrives on Monday - and i truly love our house :):T
I spent the night on my own last night in the house (first one) as DH is working away until Saturday - i wasn't fazed at all despite the rural village location, up a pitch black 'back lane' - and i was pretty impressed with myself :A

In Londonium today, so will be a late arrival home tonight :( but i NEED to get back into the MSE swing of things, so this weekends plan of attack is:-
• Complete available Surveys and start checking daily (these haven't been completed for ~7 weeks )
• Start reading my 'grow your own' garden book and try over the next 2-3 weeks to put some of the 'reading' into 'action' (i won't be feeding Africa with what i grow :o , i plan to start small and see how we go as i'm not the most green fingered of individuals )
• Think of other money making/saving schemes

• Update signature - we finally have a mortgage
• Catch up on diaries
:money:actions so far in the house:-
• Menu plan & Shopping for May completed
• Smart Meter obsession - but this is really helping us control our spending for Gas/elec
• Very little going out/doing much of anything over the last month-6 weeks, so ££ saved (the only downside is we have been edoing house jobs and buying those pesky 'things' you need for the house and jobs that seem to overall cost a fortune!)
• Continued to take advantage of £co when house buying and for all things work related
Right better post before wifi signal is lost - here's hoping for a sunny weekend :T
