I am having some suspicions that the boots I bought in May particularly because they are ' waterproof' may not actually be waterproof as my left foot is suspiciously cold and damp. :( we shall see when I get home. Humpf

*update* left foot was slightly damp. Not what I expect from 'waterproof' boots.
  • Hi Laura.

I have never had waterproof boots that are actually waterproof, apart from Emu waxed snowboots at £160 a pair. With most boots, the water eventually gets in where the upper joins the sole. That spray on waterproofing stuff does help though (before they get soaked - not afterwards, which took me a while to learn LOL :)

Well, on Tuesday night there was further discussions with OHs parents about repayment of the money. We had agreed £400 per month between us. This is an amount we can afford without skinting ourselves but getting it paid back fairly quickly. However, they have decided what they want us to do is pay them back £200 per month, and put £200 per month in savings. This will, obviously, double the amount of time it will take to pay them back from 3 years to 6 years! And the whole point was to get this done ASAP. It would, of course, leave us with £15, 000 in savings at the end of the six years... but that wasn't the aim!

Anyway- we have decided to half ignore them. We will pay them back the £200 per month and put £200 in savings but when we have enough in there as a lump sum to pay them back we can just do it. So.. aiming to pay back £7500 over 3 years, and save £7500 over 3 years and then pay them back.

You see, we were intending to build up savings again from January as well as paying back the £400 and if we did ever need to borrow money again we know they have it.

Anyway, 2 tickers now- one debt repayment , one savings, and the aim is to get them to total £15000 ASAP

    :p

    Hi Laura<
What understanding In-laws you have. That's a good plan you have. Let them think that's what your doing and then when you have saved the amount pay them back! A little of what they don't know etc.
It also means if you have an unexpected problem you have some money to deal with it.
    Keep up the good work.
    Debt at start of DMP 1/6/09: £2942 - £1942
    Buffer Zone 1; £84 -
    £2 saving plan:-
  • Totally agree with Robsmum. You have nice in-laws there.

Thanks guys :) They are great and it's great that they are willing and able to help us (just a shame it had to be because OHs grandfather died :( )

Opened an ISA today in order to pay my £200 per month so that there will be a little bit of interest at the end of the year... just a little bit though. :) Feel grown up- never had an ISA before :)

Also- we have a cunning plan to make them accept the money when we want to give it back... you see, we don't want to start trying for a family until there is no debt hanging over us. And they really want grandkids (and so do my parents) so it's really a case of- let me give you £7500 and grandchildren, or I can keep the money and no grandchildren for at least another 3 years... you decide :p
  • That is a clever plan Laura :) x

Little update on the continuing saga of my boss is an idiot. This month he has only paid us half our wage, with an assurance that the rest will be paid by wednesday. It had better be

As husband is paying his mum and dad back £200 per month, and I am putting £200 per month into an ISA I have decided to race our snails as I would like to pay back more and perhaps get it done quicker. His is the green snail, mine is purple :p

Only £100 on my snail at the moment- waiting for the rest of my pay before sending over the other half :o
