Where to buy a memory foam pillow - without taking out a mortgage?

I've got two of those expensive Tempur pillows so will throw my thoughts in for you!

I bought one of their contoured ones (the Original) years ago when they first hit the market, but would urge anyone considering that shape of pillow to go and try it first! My shoulder/neck was measured up in a shop to make sure I got the correct size wedge for sleeping on my back using the thinner edged wedge and on my side using the fatter one. I think it was a Furniture Village store.

Another benefit of trying the pillows in a bed shop - it allows you to check the pillow goes with your type of mattress - sounds silly, I know, but my pillow suited me better on a firmer base and I sometimes found it quite uncomfortable on softer mattresses! Find out which shape and size of pillow is best and then try eBay to source a brand new one at a more reasonable cost. I've bought Tempur products from eBay seller 'uk-mobility' successfully.

It took a few days to get used to - my OH didn't persevere and gave up too soon in my opinion! But after years with the Original pillow, I lost quite a bit of weight and found both wedges too uncomfortable to use - so I then bought a traditional shaped Tempur pillow! I have had it for a few years now and still absolutely love it - it goes everywhere with me and I find it hard to get to sleep without it. You'll soon forget about the huge cost - you'll just be thankful every morning for buying it!

Finally, yes, there are lots of other 'memory foam' pillows out there, but they vary widely in the amount of support they provide your neck and head - Tempur foam is quite dense and, although that makes their pillows feel amazingly heavy when you pick one up, it means your head is very well supported all the time and it doesn't compress that easily.

So I would recommend getting a Tempur sample (available from http://www.tempur.co.uk/tempurUK/freeinfo/ ) so that you can get a good squeeze and of how dense the foam should be to give you that support. They send you a small square sample, small enough for your handbag, but large enough to give you a quick comparison in the shops while you're still deciding!

Are you still awake? So sorry for waffling on! :rotfl:
