Under the Sale of Goods act, if an item sold develops a fault/is faulty then the customer can return it to the seller.

the SELLER however has the option IN LAW to choose to refund the price paid OR replace the faulty good OR arrange a repair.

So, in your case, as the seller still has the item BUT he is now selling at a higher price he decided he would prefer to refund you. He has fulfilled his obligations.
