I recently bought an irregular choice bag on eBay which developed a fault. The seller still has this style for sale at a much higher price.
I have asked for an exchange and they have stated that they bought a limited number of these as surplus stock which is why they got them so cheap so will only exchange for a different style or refund me as they only have the higher priced ones left.
It is exactly the same bag and all I would like them to do is exchange it for me but they will only let me have either this alternative bag or refund me. Any advice on how I can get them to exchange the bag I bought with one of the same style?

Unfortunately they are entitled to give you a refund if they want to."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Unfortunately it isn't quite as straight forward as that.
I sell some items which are 'price sensitive'. Although they are stock items, the price changes with each shipment.
So although they have stock, it clearly isn't at the price you paid.0

That may be the case but I would say it's pretty poor customer service not to supply satisfactory goods at the price paid. With all due respect if I pay for a bag I expect to get the bag for that price and for it to be of a decent qualityEveryone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0

But that is not what I referred to. My reply was in relation specifically to you being (not) entitled to a new (higher RRP priced bag).
The seller has a duty to refund OR exchange. You cannot choose which.
The seller (presumably) is choosing to refund.
So they have not supplied poor customer service.0

What is the fault with the bag? is it repairable?0

could you offer to pay the difference?0

It's just a damaged Zip pull. I've already said that I would happily accept a replacement zip pull but the seller will not do this
@the only way is up. If this situation was anywhere other than ebay you would expect a retailer to replace if they had tock to do so even if their wholesale price had gone up I do not see why I should not expect the bag I paid for, for the price I paid for it.Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0

You can expect what you like  but the seller on Ebay or any other platform has the same legal obligations. And they do not include having to replace you with a like for like item. And actually I would not expect them to replace like for like, so please don't try and tell me what I would expect.
You got the bag you paid for but it developed a fault. They have offered a refund.0
