  • Have just joined as I spotted this discussion on a Google search.

I also have sleep apnoea + have a company which specialises in CPAP Comfort, which I won't link to on here for fear of breaking any rules, and because I'm not here to sell - just to try and help!

We used to sell those liners, and you're right... at £20 a month they're expensive and only worked for 50% of people. It's easy to make your own out of an old t-shirt (as it needs to be a slightly stretchy material), and the good thing is you can wash your own. Those have been designed specially for single night use!!!

We also have a forum with lots of free help, and if you do a search for Liners on there, you'll find other related posts where people have discussed them. Sorry, but understandably as a new user I can't post a link, but if you search yourself for 'hope2sleepguide' you should find it.

Hope this helps - CPAP isn't easy, but life-changing when you get good therapy.

My 45 year old brother who has downs syndrome has recently been diagnosed and he gets his machine on the 10th Sep. Me, my Sister or 2 brothers stay overnight but we will still be concerned about how he gets on with this. At the moment we prop him up with pillows but he is often sat up asleep when we go in his room.
  • Sheilavw - there have been studies done on people with Downs Syndrome, which show that approx 45% of them have sleep apnoea, so it's good your brother has been diagnosed, but may prove difficult at first for him to accept CPAP treatment - good luck with that! Hopefully, you should find an overall improvement in your brother's health once the treatment is underway though, and the lack of oxygen desaturations with successful treatment should further help protect his heart.

i have found using a memory foam pillow has helped, as you dont sink into it

i too have strap marks on my face in the morning, but have never encountered swelling. you must be wearing it too tight for your face to swell

contrary to what you would think, actually having the straps slightly loose, helps the mask stay on better. have you tried adjusting the straps when you are laid on your side, so you can get the tension right when you are in your normal sleeping position?

the biggest problem i have, is i often find that i have removed my mask and hung it up on the bedpost at some point during the night lol. i dont think theres any solution for that!

I got my cpap machine on Monday as mo evaluating it. Monday night took if off by 4am couldn't stand it on. Tuesday faired better until around 6am when I got congested and couldn't breathe well through my nose and its difficult through your mouth when using cpap as you get back draft

I have sleep apnoea mild 8 times an hour based on a nights sleep. I am sure though that some of the problem is my sinuses I often get headaches and congested especially at night. Tried off shelve stuff, sprays, olba oil etc and I get stuff on prescription but it doesn't work. I sometimes get pain top of my nose I keep telling doctors but nothing is helping. I have had this years now. Even had a scan on my head but that was for tinnitus asked them to see if any problems in my nose, but they couldn't find anything

My blood pressure has also gone up in recent times

I have an appointment at sleep clinic with a technician this Thursday to see what is wrong that all of the 3 types of full face masks leak air before the pressure gets anywhere near 18.4 .. it takes 45 min to build to this, I have a ramp feature so starts at pressure 4 and builds up to my prescribed 18.4 within those 45 min but every one of the 3 masks starts leaking air so impossible to sleep as have air going into my eyes....

    :(

    absolutely dead tired...

I have to admit I am not as tired now but I only lasted around 40 mins last night with new machine/mask. Nurse said I done well with the old machine that recorded data. I been in touch with car insurance and they said they make a note and see what dvla say once I send the form off
  • Which machine (make/model) have you got now? What mask (make/model)?

What is the pressure setting on your machine?

I slept like a baby during my overnight study and for 3 weeks afterwards with the machine/mask I have now.

Then something has wrong and it has been a nightmare ever since.. the air leaks ar not possible to manage, can not fall asleep and if I do - they wake me up within an hour the most.

To start with, I was sleeping with the mask on for 6 hours each night and felt really good..
