The worst we found in Rome ...people not giving way on the pavement and trying to cross the busier roads. Other than that a must visit city.

the other thing to be weary of is the city tax. Its 3 euros for 4 and 5 star hotels and 2 euros for 3 stars and less per person per night. I just thought the woman at the hotel was trying it on, as on my booking confirmation it said all taxes were paid, i'd totally spent up and bar enough to get us to the bus to get to the airport I didn't have it (as they charged it at the end of the hotel rather than the beginning and don't bother warning you when you check in). I didn't end up paying it as I thought I was being conned and was fuming, tried getting me to fill in a form or something but I was like you ain't getting any more off me. Learnt my lesson though, but haven't received a letter through the post for it yet and my card still hasn't been charged for it either. Was sweating all the way home as I then read up on my phone on the way to the airport, left a bitter taste really.

While in Rome we got the 110 bright red bus as it was cheaper (i think 18 euros for a 2 day pass) and helped take you to the landmarks. Didn't really go in any of them as they were too expensive, but saw them from the outside. What is really random is some places won't let you sit outside even if you have brought a cup of tea in one of their cups, as its reserved for people eating even if no one is there. They did charge upto 1.50 euro to sit outside (higlighted when i brought a ice tea that said 2.50 for the bottle on the fridge), only to be charged over 4 euro when we got the bill. There is some ok places to eat, but half of it is just frozen meals (but they do put it on the menu).

Rome is a super city to visit. But like anywhere in the world you have to be cautious of pickpockets in central locations.

Free city maps are available at the airport bus transfer desks.

Make sure you "punch your bus ticket" on entering the bus. It is not uncommon for police to jump the buses to check everyone has a valid ticket.....if you don't you get arrested and carted off to the police station - you will get fined.
