Consider staying in brooklyn too, prices can be cheaper and manhatton is easily and quickly accessible via the subway, brooklyn offers some great views of the manhatton skyline and is infact a lovely area that would otherwise be missed.

Where did you stay in Brooklyn?

Still confused  could you explain?

I'm surprised this question has never been asked (Cheap Accomodation in New York) and that no-one has ever mention this Priceline thing.

If you are really strapped for cash I would consider Brooklyn.

But I would not like to use subways late at night.

We got a taxi from Brooklyn to Manhatten as we ate at the river cafe and it cost us about £25 so keep this in mind.

We stayed in the Salisbury hotel I cant rate this hotel high enough it was a great!!

Marriot (Fairfield Inn) in New Jersey was superb. 15 minutes to centre of Manhattan by bus from the bus stop just outside the door. I'd definitely stay in New Jersey for the price difference. Nice area as well.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

I've used priceline to book 2 nights in Amsterdam, you can specify star rating and area, we ended up in a 5 star, were upgraded to a suite with free breakfast...not bad for £15 each per night.
When you get to NY go to the information centre in Times square, you can pick up a booklet giving you disounts on meals and attractions.
Try downloading vouchers from the net, you print them out and get discounts on the things that you fancy doing.
If you queue in Times square you can get left over theatre tickets at bargain prices, the queue is long but worth it.
I stayed in a great hotel in Manhatten, can't remember the name, very art deco, built in the 1920s was the tallest building before the Empire state was built, it's actually very near there......three star, great hotel and good value..

Remembered, it was called the New Yorker Ramada, near to Madison Square gardens, Empire State, Times Square and Macys.
