Hello,
Can anyone help me with this?
I purchased a mobile from carphone warehouse back in 2006 on the 3 network. While in the contract I lost the phone and purchased a new phone which I sourced myself and I had to buy a new sim from 3 at a cost of £15. A few months after this I was not happy with the contract and I phoned 3 to try and cancel my contract. I was told by the call centre that I could not cancel the contract. They wouldnt even offer me an early termination fee. So I decided not to pay the monthly bills. I continued to receive bills from 3 but I just ignored them for months. I eventually started to receive letters from a debt recovery agency (name I cannot remember). I eventually called 3 and settled the bill (£81) over the phone paying by card. Upon checking I have a default on my experian credit file which I would like to go about removing. Any ideas?

Well you did default, so it won't be removed.0

You will be better off posting in the Debt section rather than mobiles ...

Why do you think it should be removed?
Credit reports are a record of your performance of paying agreed debts. You agree that you entered into a contract and that you simply stopped paying what you agreed to pay. It sounds like your Credit File is a statement of facts as you have reported them.
I suppose this is another example of when it comes to debt, sticking your head in the sand and hoping it goes away is rarely the best solution.
All I can think of is that you can request experian (and the others) to include a statement from you giving you side of the account. This will be included in the file so that whenever a potential lender does a credit search they will have to consider your story rather than just the default notice alone. I cant remember the proper name for this or how you do it.0 -
The "default" you talk about isn't a default as such. What you have on file is a record of your transactions with companies that you have a contract with, as well as banks etc.
Your record will show not only what you owe, but also your payment history.
Your payment history quite correctly shows that for some time you were in arrears. Are you suggesting that 3 tampers with this history to falsify it?
Obviously, your record should show that there is now no outstanding balance, but facts are facts and any history of arrears is relevant information for anyone who may be considering offering you credit.
I don't know how long this history remains on file, but 6 years springs to mind.0 -

So you defaulted, but want it removing?
Not going to happen, you're stuck with it - the whole point of a credit rating is to show future potential risk to new lenders. In my eyes losing a phone and then refusing to pay bills is the sign of a risk, so it's serving it's purpose.0
